"Memories- Track and Field"

10th Grade

Division Semi-Finals

Track Meet

400-Meter Distance

"In lane one; Hye Wan.

In lane two; Chin Ji-Hi.

Lane 3; Kim Ha-Yoon.

And in lane four, two-time State Finalist and District Champion, with 4 record-breaking fastest times, 3 silver medals, 1 bronze, and the ONLY student in ALL of Korea to receive the Masters Award. Give it up for our very own Regional Gold Medalist and School Pride, the youngest runner in the history of our high school to join the Varsity ranks, I give you Park Jimin."

The crowd erupted in cheers as the 4 contestants took their respective places.

While stretching his arms and legs, Jimin quickly glanced the crowd as he was looking for a specific individual to boost his spirits. To give him that gummy smile he come to love so much.

Finding Yoongi in his normal spot among the left bleachers on the 3rd floor, he watched the pale boy lean over the railing, put his fist in the air, while shouting "Jimin-shi, Hwaiting!"

That was ALL Jimin needed to get his motivation going. Just his beautiful, pale porcelain-skinned best friend and the 400-meter distance track that was ahead of him.

Closing his eyes and taking a deep slow breath, he returned his mindset to competitive mode and blocked out all surrounding noise and distractions.

"On your mark," they heard the announcer say.

All four runners got in their stance while waiting for the "starter" to pull the trigger.

Jimin braced his feet in the starting blocks and put the balls of his feet firmly up against each silver metal bracket. Putting his hands behind the line, he placed his arms vertically and pressed firmly into the ground. He made sure both hands were shoe-length apart.

"Set!"

All four contestants lifted their hips. They teach you in basics that all hips should rise above the line of head.

"Go!"

The gun went off and then they were off!

Jimin started at a steady pace but gradually established a sprint speed. He passed lane 3 with ease while keeping a consistent pace. Picking up his momentum, at the halfway mark he easily zoomed by lane 1. He was now in the home stretch, only 200 meters to go. Lane 2 made the mistake of running on the outside. Jimin saw this as an opportunity and found his way in by sprinting at full speed. He passed him in lane 1. They were on the last corner. He could hear all the cheers and clapping, the stomping of feet on the bleachers as he ran through the yellow tape and passed the finish line first.

He slowed to a run-walk pace, as to not abruptly stop and speed up his already rapidly beating heart. He finally came to a halt and bent over. He put his hands on his knees, but only had a few seconds to catch his breath before he was engulfed in a warm embrace.
