"Junior Year High School Spring Dance"
There were balloons everywhere covering the ceiling and floor! Music was blaring out of cheap speakers, a food table was set up with stale snacks, and there was this ice cream punch, slimy-looking drink that no one dared to touch because it was starting to turn green.
Old Christmas lights were strung throughout the hallways and trees outside, and the school's live band was struggling to stay on beat.
You would think that with how wealthy this school portrays itself to be, that they would have the decency to hire a DJ, afford some proper decorations, or at least order some decent catering.
Nevertheless, kids showed up in high spirits, hoping to relax and put their stressful minds at ease. Midterms were finally over, and this was their way to let loose, to celebrate and have fun.
Jimin showed up 30 mins late. He had argued with his mom for what seemed like forever, on why it was important for him to attend. He ended up making some ridiculous excuse for needing extra-curricular activities for his college applications and that it would look good on his admissions to show that he "volunteered" to set up. Eventually his dad intervened and told him to let loose and have fun while pushing him out the door. He could still hear his eomma yelling from inside as he made a run for it.
He walked in lonely and feeling out of place. He indeed had "friends", but they were more like "acquaintances", and they were not just anyone he could really trust or even go out of his way to hang out with. They thought that they were all too good and rich to be caught dead in such a place. Studying was way more important than something as "useless" as a school dance, which to them and even his own mom, was not deemed "productive enough."
He searched the crowd, hoping to spot his date immediately. What he got instead was being bombarded by both male and female students.
"Park Jimin, fancy seeing you here. Did you come alone?" Jungwoo asked. He was a 3rd year male top student who was always behind Jimin in 4th place. Okay, so maybe "they" did attend the dance. Jimin was beyond confused, what were "they" doing here?
"May I have the honor of this dance?" a girl standing next to him asked.
"Actually, I was gonna ask that first. I am the school's number one top female, honor roll, while you are the top boy. We are a perfect match!" Ais-ha, 2nd place said, cutting said "friend" off.
Jimin had no idea that Yoongi was standing behind them and had heard the whole thing.
"Oppa!" a girl said on Yoongi's left, appearing out of nowhere. "Do you want to dance?"
"I'm sorry, " he apologized, while keeping his eyes on Jimin. "I already have someone else in mind I want to dance with."
"Then why don't you hurry and go find her before she gets snatched up."
"You don't understand, I'm way out of this person's league. We're not even close to being on the same level."
He had to be careful when addressing Jimin. He still wasn't sure where the school stance was on LGBTQ, and Jimin was the school's face, a popular figure. Last thing he wanted to do was embarrass and possibly out his friend. Although he himself wasn't even sure where they stood in a relationship, one thing was for sure- he knew he loved the pretty boy.
