chapter twenty nine: dorothea & inez

"Do you think this counts as kidnapping?" Inez Johnson asked her older sister as she hovered over the unconscious boy that lay on top of her neighbor's couch "You think we could get arrested?"

Dorothea Johnson shrugged from the other side of the room, looking up from her book "I don't know, I guess it really depends on how he reacts to it, if he freaks out, we're in trouble, but if he's grateful, than that means we're good people"

Inez nodded, her face barely inches away from the boy's and looking down on him "He's sorta cute"

"Jesus Inez! You can't stay that about a guy while he's knocked out" Dorothea scolded "And get away, your face will be a jump scare when he wakes up"

"He should be grateful to wake up to my face" Inez replied, her hand reaching down and touching his forehead softly, before she travelled it up towards his hair "His hair is really soft, if you were wondering"

Dorothea rolled her eyes "Stop being weird"

"I like his hair" Inez mumbled, her hand traveling down his face and onto his shoulder, finally reaching his hand as she picked it up "Oh Dot! I think he's married!" she smiled as she looked towards her sister "What do you think his wife is like? I bet she's so beautiful and they're so in love with each other"

"Catch yourself on sis, he's way too young to be married" Dorothea scoffed, rolling her eyes at her sister, because Inez had always been a hopeless romantic and was obsessed with the idea of love, and especially the idea of being in love "It's probably a promise ring or somethin' like that, you always blow everything way outta proportion"

Inez let out a happy sigh and shrugged "That's still adorable though, I wonder what his girl is like, I bet they're the most adorable couple around and everyone else is jealous of how in love they are with each other. Oh could you just imagine!" she dropped his hand before looking back at her sister.

"I don't care" Dorothea deadpanned.

"Mm" Inez hummed as she stood up "That's only because you know that no guy will ever love you"

"Who says I want a man?" the girl asked, not even taking her eyes off the page of her book

Inez laughed "Everybody wants a man...well except for the men of course, they just want women" she added, glancing back at Anthony on the couch "Oh he's just so cute, I'm so jealous of his girl"

"Not everyone wants to be in a relationship you know" Dorothea commented, glancing up "And not everyone is as desperate as you, Inez. I just have standards with who I date, unlike you"

"Remember when you date Rick? Yeah sis, I don't think you have 'standards'" Inez mocked her.

Dorothea scoffed "Come on, that was like two years ago" she defended "And you can't say nothin' when you're the one who had a crush on Bobby"

"That was years ago! And I don't care what you say, I still think he's cute. You're just either too dumb or too blind to realize that" Inez ranted on, her arms flailing around dramatically as she spoke "You know that he's liked you since you were basically kids, yet you won't do anything 'bout it cause you're scared"

"I just don't like Bobby like that, he's literally my best friend, and you know that" Dorothea defended.

Inez rolled her eyes "Nope, you're just scared because you think he'll break your heart like all of the other boys do" she teased.
