Chapter 22 - The truth

Kate’s P.O.V

**Flashback**

I sat in my room thinking about what was wrong with Libby. I thought long and hard and so far the only idea I had was that something had happened between her and Jason, and then that’s when it hit me. The letter. Maybe there was something in that letter from Jason which was the cause of Libby’s silence. After a few minutes of intense thinking I was sure I was on to something so I set off to find out the problem then I would sort out the solution. I grabbed my keys and headed out to Jason’s house.

The drive there took me a while considering the fact that he lived rather far from me, it took at least an hour and when I got there the place was empty. On the door was a small note saying ‘On holiday, please try another day or contact us on the following number’, taking my phone out from my pocket I dialled the number from the note. ‘Ring, ring, ring’ I called a couple of times yet no one picked up, instead I went back home annoyed however for the sake of Libby I carried on trying. It had been a whole day now, since I had that number but still nothing until that very evening I had a phone call which didn’t have a caller I.D.

“Hello” I said with a quiet voice hoping it wasn’t an eerie stalker.
“Kate, it’s me Nathan” A familiar voice said. Nathan was an old friend who moved away a few years ago to do his masters in medicine but came back just this year for a new job.
“Oh yeah hi, how are you? How’s your new job going at the hospital?” I asked sighing with relief.
“Yeah it’s good but listen I’ve got something more important to tell you. I think maybe you should sit down for this” his tone sounded tense. I did as he said and threw myself onto the nearest seat.
“Go on” I said my fists clutched.
“Remember you told me about that guy Jason, the one who’s with your friend?”
“Yeah, what about him?”
“He’s here, in the hospital” he said slowly
“What! What do you mean he’s in the hospital? How do you know?” I shot up from my seat and began to walk around the room.
“I mean, he’s got something wrong with him. I’m not sure yet what’s wrong but he’s been a patient here for quite a while now. ”
“Are you sure? The last time I checked he moved away with his family” I replied anger rushed through my veins.
“Yes Kate. I know what he looks like. That is him and he must have lied because I’ve been assigned to assist another doctor on his case. I’ll be finding more about his case tomorrow.” I still couldn’t get over the fact that Jason lied and that too, to Libby.
“Okay Nath, do you think you could send me the address of the hospital. I’ll come now” just as I was about to grab my keys again Nathan spoke.
“No wait. Kate you can’t come now. Visiting times are over. You’ll have to come tomorrow. Tell you what I’ll come round yours tomorrow at 11 and we’ll go together” he said sweetly. Which was why I always loved Nathan, in the friendly way of course. He was more like the older brother I never had.
“Okay thanks. See you tomorrow then”
“Alright bye.” He replied back then we both closed the phone.

I couldn’t sleep that night, all I could do was think about why Jason lied. The first thought that came to my mind before I had any information was that he was cheating on Libby but now it’s more complicated. It appears to be more serious than what I was expecting it to be. I also decided not to tell Libby anything until I was completely sure about what Nathan was saying. I needed to see it to believe it. The next morning I stayed in bed till nine, then got up to have a shower still thinking of course. I took at least an hour in the shower, I needed to relax myself and having a long shower was the best option. It was around half ten when I was dressed and ready to go despite having half an hour to spare but time flew by and in no time Nathan was knocking on the door.
