Chapter 3 – How we met

“Ring, ring” I slammed my hand on my alarm clock until it stopped ringing and flung my eyelids open. Monday morning the first day of college, I threw my bed sheet off and lazily climbed out of bed. I opened the black curtains that had orange flowers on it, allowing the bright sunlight to illuminate my room blinding me for few seconds. I felt a little uncomfortable in this new house but at the same time it gave me a sign of relief. Relief that I was away from all the drama back home, I guess I made the right choice of deciding to come here. My new closet had everything a girl needed. It was filled with clothes, make- up, shoes bags and other accessories. I grabbed a pair of plain black jeans and a sleeveless white top which had a peace sign on it. I applied some simple eye make-up and did my hair in a French braid adding a flower clip to complete my outfit. I looked at myself one last time and grabbed my phone and bag.
“Morning” I said
“Want some breakfast?” Mag asked setting the table.
“No thank you, I’ll just grab something on the way” I said about to leave until Dave stopped me.
“One sec, we have something to show you” Dave spoke, directing me to the front door. I followed him wondering what they had done now.

Instead they left me shocked, there parked outside the house was a BMW M6 convertible, I was speechless. It was a shiny turquoise colour.
“We thought you would prefer your own ride” Dave said to me handing me the car keys and giving me a wink.
I took the keys, walked to the car, opened the door and put a big smile across my face.
“Thank you it’s awesome, I love it” I said as I walked to Mag and Dave to give them a hug.
“Err well I guess I should get going now, don’t want to be late”. I said getting into the car and waving goodbye.

I started the car, the engine roared to life giving me a little fright. The car felt warm and comfortable; the seats were soft, I put my hands on the wheel holding a firm grip and began to slowly move the car from its original position. As I drove I stopped by the local shop to get something to eat. It seemed like a very friendly neighbourhood everyone knew each other and also knew that I was the new girl. Which is why as I got back into my car holding onto my food I could feel many staring eyes piercing my back. I quickly drove off again thinking of how my first day would turn out.

I reached the college. The car stopped, I stopped, and people stared. It felt awkward having to be surrounded by many diverse strangers. I looked around to make sure I had parked in the correct place, until a girl walked towards me. I got out of the car and stood there until she was standing five cm away from me. She was dressed in a light pink lace strapless top, a black short skirt and some pink high heels which by the way looked gorgeous. Behind her were three other people; another girl dressed in all black and had a few tattoos on her arms and two guys both wearing jeans and a checkered shirt.

“Hey, you must be the new girl. I’m Kate, this is Lizzy, Chris and he’s josh and you?” she said as she pointed to the people standing around her. Chris was the one with the red shirt and black hair, he reminded me of an old friend who I hadn’t seen for a while after my parents died. I looked at her again and she was still waiting for a reply once I found my voice, I said
“Hi I’m Libby, nice to meet you … Could you direct me the receptionist please”
“Nice to meet you too Libby, just go into that building and take your first left” she was pointing to the large old building in front of us.
“Thanks.” I said about to leave until she spoke again.
“I guess we’ll see you around then” she said smiling at me.
“Thank you, see you around then” I smiled at them and walked away. I followed Kate’s directions and found myself looking at a large sign saying RECEPTION in red. Now I felt like an idiot, how could I have missed that sign. It literally covered half of the bloody building. 

I went inside and behind the front desk was a short red headed lady, she wore glasses and seemed very busy for some reason it reminded me of ‘Alice in the Wonderland’.
“Excuse me” she looked up at me
“Yes how may I help you?”
“I’m Libby, I’m here as a new student” for the first time I felt nervous, I could feel droplets of water on my forehead, my hands began to tremble and I wasn’t someone who had a lack of confidence.
“Hmmm. Ah hah here you are Libby Lentz, here’s your ID, your timetable, if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask” she spoke really fast as she handed me all the things I needed including a map of the school so I knew where to go. I looked at my timetable unfortunately I had Biology first, not my best subject but not my worse either.

During the day I found Kate and her friends and hung out with them. Luckily I had Kate and Josh in some of my classes so I wasn’t on my own. While spending time with my new friends I found out that Lizzy and Josh were a couple. Kate was named ‘Most adored girl’ since many guys wanted her and girls wanted to be like her but nonetheless she was single. Chris on the other hand was dating someone who didn’t go to our college. After the school day I went straight home, not bothering to explore like I always do.
The next few weeks were the same as before except that I now spent more time getting to know Mag and Dave. They were all I had left. So much has changed after mom and dad died.  

Thursday 5th of January our first meeting.                                                       

I woke up as usual looking outside, it was a lovely bright sunny morning. I thought to myself that today was the day where I would explore maybe go to the local library. I went to look into my closet to find something to wear, took me a while till I found the perfect outfit. I was wearing a sleeveless baby blue and white checkered shirt with a pair of dark blue jean shorts. I wore my white cardigan which was just above my knees. At first I thought to wear ankle boots but it was a bit too hot so instead I just put my white flats on to match my cardigan. I let my hair down, curling the bottom. When I was all ready to go I took my bag, phone and keys and headed out.
“Mag I’m going now, and I might be a little late than usual” I said to her opening the front door.
“Okay hun that’s fine just be home before five, Dave’s been invited to a party and he wants us to be there too” Mag said
I nodded and left the house closing the door behind me.

College was the same of course, during lunch Kate had invited me to go out with her and Lizzy for shopping but I told them I was busy. I felt bad for turning them down but they understood. After school I went to find my way to the library it took me a little while as it was the first time I was going but eventually I found it. The library wasn’t too wide but was extremely tall, it was all made of glass. The colour of the library was bright yellow and white. As I entered the silence hit me, I breathed in the fresh fragrance of new books surrounding the room. I walked towards the receptionist.
“Hello” a lady who looked to be in her late thirties looked up at me. She wore a long white skirt with a half sleeve red top.

She had glasses on which made her eyes look huge from the lens, reminding me of the teacher in Harry Potter.
“I guess your new here?” she said. I nodded.   
“Well let’s get you started” she spoke as she looked though her computer then shifted to looking through papers. “Now if you want to join the library you can either be a member or get a job, we have one last open space”
“What does the job include?” I asked.
“Attending meetings, showing people around, holding events, travelling etc.”
“I’ll take it” I said smiling at her, I couldn’t believe I just got a job.
“Okay then, first step is to fill in a form”. She helped me fill in the form, it took us a while as the form was at least four pages long. It took an hour in total taking us up to four o’clock. The second hour the receptionist told me a little about the library, she told me that her name was Caron and she was the manager of the library.

“These are two of the people who work here. This is Charlotte and this is Maddie”.  Charlotte and Maddie were twins, they looked exactly the same except Charlotte was shorter than Maddie and Maddie wore glasses. “And well were just missing one person…..” she stopped and began looking for the mystery person. “Oh there he is” she smiled at the door so did the other two girls. I was pretty sure I could see Maddie drooling.

This was it. The moment I met him.

The person entering the library looked quiet short from the distance. The closer he came the better I could view him. My eyes traced his tall, hard, toned figure; from his untidy light brown hair to his worn combat shoes. He had hazel green eyes with a hint of blue reminding me of the ocean. Once he was standing right in front of me I could notice that he had lilac bags under his eyes ageing him a little. His face looked hard and stiff as if he was trying to concentrate hard on something, I was about to look away until my eyes caught something.
As soon as he looked at Caron he smiled.

Now that’s one heck of a smile. Despite his hard figure his smile made every girl’s head turn.
“You’re a little early don’t you think” Caron said sarcastically.
“Sorry I just came out of practice now” he said as the smile slowly disappeared and so did mine.
“Hmm I going to have to do something about that, anyway this is our newest member, Libby this is Jason. He will be your mentor” Caron said
His eyes flicked to me, his smile reappeared and nodded his head.  
“Hello” he said
“Are … you okay?” he asked me in a confused way, I felt a nudge from beside me, I took a deep breath, inhaling his overly strong cologne. I nodded. I reckon right about now my cheeks had turned rosy pink because everyone had their eyes on me.
