Chapter 8 - Invited
Our last three days in New York flew by. It was Friday mid of March, the day me and Jason were going back home as friends.
I was home.
“Thanks for dropping me off” I said to Jason
“No prob” his smile clung to his lips as I got out of the car and walked inside. Once I was at the door step I turned and saw Jason still waiting in his car. Mag opened the house door and hugged me straight away, she grabbed my hand and pulled me inside. I took one last glace back at Jason who was still waiting. Out of now where he winked at me. My mouth dropped opened as I saw him chuckled lightly. The house door closed; Jason disappearing from my sight.Monday come quickly and so did the end of the school day. For the rest of the week Kate kept reminding me that I had to invite Jason to Kate’s birthday party. Finally when the time came I was chickening out.
“Libs go now” Kate used her annoyed voice on me
“You know I don’t even think he would go”
“He’s coming, now’s your chance” I turned with my eyes widening. He looked straight at me giving me a confused look as he saw the horror on my face.
“Kate you ask, it’s your party”
“So, he’s your friend” before I could reply Jason was standing right in front of us.
“Hey, how are you?” Jason asked looking down at me as I was smaller than him despite him only being a few months older.
“Yeah I’m good” I said smiling at him, I nudged Kate so she could ask him
“Hi Jason” she said
“Hi Kate” he said still smiling. I nudged her and she looked at me.
“Erm Jason Libs has something to ask you so I’ll catch you around” she said rushing her words out her mouth. I gave her a fierce look and in return she ran off.
“Your question?” he said as we began to walk. I walked at his side, noticing that he was walking slowly so I could keep up.
“Erm… Kate and I were thinking” I stopped taking a deep breath
“Yeah….”
“Would you like to come to a party?” the words come out faster than I expected.
“What?” his brows narrowed,
“I said would you like to come to a … party?” I said more relaxed and a little slower.
“Will there be people there?” Its party, people have to be there I thought to myself.
“Yes, a lot” I said keeping my calm.
“I’m not really a people person” he said opening the library doorWe walked to the room and I sat opposite him still holding onto the party conversation.
“But why. It’s only a party” I was getting annoyed by the fact that he wasn’t approving. Suddenly he slammed his book shut making my heart beat ten times faster. Slowly his body moved towards me, he was literally hovering over the table using his hands for support. My hands gipped the sides of the chair. He was close enough for me to almost feel his breath on my face.
“Do you want me to come?” He held his position. My lips moved but no voice come out, he come closer, now I could feel his breathing on my face, I took a deep breath inhaling his light valantino fragrance
“Kate does, so does everyone else” I said trying to keep calm.
“Okay but do YOU?” he said, I saw his body faintly move towards me again but before he could I spoke.
“Yes” I said. He shot me a twisted smile then moved back to his seat.
“Was that hard. When is it?” he was smiling whereas I was frozen. After a few minutes my body automatically loosed and so did my grip.
“Friday night, its Kate’s birthday”
“Okay since it’s Wednesday, can you come with me tomorrow to buy her a gift” he said leaning close to me again.
“Okay” I said nervously.
“Okay I’ll see you outside your college gates” he took his books and left the room. My eyes followed him as he left. As soon as the door was shut I took my phone out and dialled Kate’s number.“Hey Kate I have a problem”
“Why what’s wrong”
“Jason just asked me to help him find a gift for you” I said panicking
“So what’s the problem?”
“Lemme rephrase… Jason invited me to go gift shopping. ALONE”
“WOW, so what did you say?” her voice picked up sounding more excited
“I said Okay”
“That’s great”
“How is that great?” I asked
“Libs, if you don’t spend time with him how will you get to know him?”
“I hate it when your right” she laughed then we closed the phone.I packed my bag, grabbed my books and left the room closing the light and door behind me. I caught up with Jason who was just about to leave. Lucky for me he was kind enough to drop me off. I’m starting to think there are a few benefits to this friendship.
The next day college wasn’t too great; I was given a new assignment and I had no idea what to do on it. Then it began to rain and I didn’t have my coat, so I wasn’t too happy when Jason came to pick me up.
“Could you walk a little faster please I got places to go” Jason said when we were inside the shopping mall.
“I’ve got heals on you know and don’t forget I’m the one doing you the favour”
“Yeah yeah” I picked up my speed and after a few minutes I was beside him.
“Can’t you slow down, we have the whole day” unexpectedly he stopped, turned, and then came closer to me, I moved back instantly.
“All you have to say is that you want to spend time with me” he shot me a closed-lip smile.
“What?”
“You said want me to slow down, which clearly states that you want to spend more time with me” he held his smile which began to expand as he spoke.
“Or it could just mean that I don’t want to walk fast” we were walking again
“Ha I knew it”
“Now what?”
“You said could mean, not that it does mean, you just proved it again” he said.
“Shut up” I rolled my eyes at him.“What shop are we going to?” I asked as we stood still watching people pass
“Well what do you think she will like, clothes or maybe jewellery?” he asked
“Erm I think we should look at some jewellery, she likes them a lot” he looked around a little then nodded his head at me and began walking. I noticed that as we walked many people were looking at us.
“Jason why is nearly everyone looking at us?”
“Shall I ask them for you” He said innocently. I ignored him and carried on walking. We went to many different shops but couldn’t find anything, until we finally came to a small shop, called ‘For You’. The shop we entered was fairly small from the inside, but it had bracelets everywhere. There were some silver ones, some gold and many colourful ones. However there was one that caught my eye, it was a silver charm bracelet with many charms on and it had beads with small strands of chains coming from it. “Found anything?” he said apparently standing right next to me.
“Erm well that one is pretty” I said pointing to the bracelet I really wanted.
“You sure?” he said “How about that?” he pointed to a bracelet next to the one I picked. It too was a charm bracelet but was black. I guess he was right Kate isn’t as girly as me.
“Okay let’s get that” I picked up the bracelet and went to the counter. Once we were done in the shop, we went outside to the food court as I was starving. I stuffed my face with the pizza Jason treated me with.“Lobster wait here I’ll be back” he said getting up from his chair. Once he left I carried on stuffing my face with my pizza alongside the large coke.
“You took your time” I said when he arrived a good ten minutes later. He smiled and sat back down. After eating we went straight home.
“Thanks” I said as I got out his car
“No prob” I closed the door behind me and walked towards the door until I heard the car door close and footsteps coming towards me.
“Lobster wait” Jason was fast walking towards me.
“Erm since the party’s tomorrow shall I pick you up, we can … go together” he took his time to get his words out, I was stunned.
“Err yeah sure, see you then” I looked at him and went towards the door. Did he mean as in a couple or just friends? I shook the thought out my head and went straight to bed.
