Chapter 14 - My Seret Admirer

I watched the trees swiftly sway with the light breeze. I was jogging through the park and was going to make my way back home until my eye caught someone in the distance waving at me. I focused my eyes, trying to make out the stranger. It was an old man, waving and holding a huge bouquet of bright yellow flowers. I slowly jogged away ignoring him, thinking that he was waving at someone else. Suddenly the man appeared out of nowhere and was standing in front of me.

“Hello” He said. His voice was deep, he was short and had wrinkles on his face. I guess he was in his mid-seventies but nonetheless looked friendly.
“Hi” I said my breath slowing down. Without further ado he shoved the flowers in my face. Immediately I moved back, looking at him with a confused expression.
“I think you have the wrong person” he came closer to me again.
“Oh I’m sure you’re the right person, your Libby” he pushed the flowers in my hands, forcing me to hold them. “He sent them for you”.
“He? Who’s he?” I asked confused. The man smiled, winked at me then walked off like nothing happened. I looked at him: then the flowers. Despite the freakily, awkward moment I was just in, I had to admit the large, upbeat, yellow roses did look stunning but had friendship written all over it. The roses had a resilient fragrance that took me surprise. During the process of me sniffing the flowers like a weirdo I came across a small circle shaped card, hidden between the flowers which said … ‘To Libby… xxx your secret admirer’. I jogged home uncomfortably with the mysterious flowers.

Once I was home I unwrapped the flowers putting them in the vase. Then placed the vase on the dining table then ran up to my room. I could feel the warm sweat on my hands as I undressed myself. I felt like that I could fill a whole bucket with sweat water! I let the warm water wash off the resilient smell of sweat from my body. Once I was all clean and dressed I made my way to college.
“Hey Libs” Lizzy called at the sight of me walking towards my friends.
“Hiya” I said as I hugged Lizzy
“OHH, someone sent this for you” She said letting go of me and searching through her bag. She pulled out a large box of Ferrero Rocher chocolates. “It’s from your secret admirer… sorry I peaked” she said holding a small A6 size flowery card in her hand.
“Who gave you this?” I was actually beginning to freak out.
“Some random kid, didn’t say who sent it”. I told Lizzy about the flowers which of course freaked her out too and same goes for Kate, whereas Josh and Chris, thought I was being stalked.

The whole day I was getting mysterious gifts: books, stuffed toys, decoration pieces and so on…
They were literally stressing me out. The last gift I got was in maths and it had a message attached to it which said… ‘See you tonight’. I waited outside for Jason at the end of the college day.
“Hiya” I said when Jason arrived.
“Yeah hi” I said, still very annoyed
“What happened to you?”
“Nothing can we go” I got in the car, slammed the door then threw my stuff behind me onto the back seats of the car. My bag made a big thud dropping something onto the floor. I looked behind and saw all the seats were overflowing with colourful boxes, stuffed toys and white/yellow flowers. This just made me more irritated with this anonymous person trying to get on my bad side. I looked at Jason waiting for an answer.
“Somehow your secret admirer knew I was meeting you and left all that for you” he said adding emphasis to ‘Your secret admirer’. So it wasn’t Jason. If not him then who?
“Let’s go” I said and Jason knew I wasn’t in the mood.

The quietness of the library was the only thing helping me keep a hold of myself. I slowly went up the stairs to the top floor with Jason walking silently beside me, leaving me with my thoughts. The gifts were increasing and I still had no idea who this person was. While I was too busy thinking I hadn’t noticed that I missed a step causing me to trip. My eyes shut close preparing myself for the fall but to my surprise I didn’t feel the ground instead I felt stiff hands holding me up. I opened my eyes and saw Jason holding me which apparently made me angry since I was hoping this was all his doing but it wasn’t.
“I can handle myself you know” I pulled myself away from him and got back onto my feet.
“Yeah, I can see that” he rolled his eyes then carried on walking again behind me. I began thinking again, this mysterious person was taking over my mind.

Jason caught me again this time saving me from falling over my bag which was literally dangling on the tips of my fingers. The bag came between my legs and made me fall again.
“You’re a bit clumsy today aren’t yah or maybe” he said and stopped mid-sentence still cradling me.
“Maybe what?” I said. His grip tightened and he pulled me in closer, every organ in my body froze.
“Or maybe you just wanted to be in my arms” he smiled a crooked smile. A smile no girl; not even me could resist. I smiled and got lost in his eyes. He lifted me up and ended up carrying me in his arms up the stairs.
“Jason… People are looking” I peeped over his shoulder and saw many eyes on us.
“What’s your point” he looked at me, there was that smile again. He met my gaze sending the shivers down my spine, my heart rate began to increase again, and I felt my body heat up. He laughed.
“What?” I asked confused at his random laughter.
“Your heart is beating really fast that I can hear it from here… and I can feel you’re burning up” it took me a little time to understand what he way saying because he was still laughing. I looked at him eyes wide. I felt like I was going to explode any minute now.

Finally when we reached the top of the stairs I was getting ready for him to let me down but I thought wrong. Instead Jason carried on walking with me cradled in his arms. He gently let me down and opened the door for me. I walked inside, took a seat and began working. Whenever I looked up into space and start thinking I got preoccupied by the sight of Jason looking at me. As soon as our eyes met he would quickly looked down again pretending to work even though there was absolutely nothing on his side of the table except a closed science book. This gave me the giggles. We worked for hours or more like I worked for hours while Jason would just keeping looking at me then looking down again at his closed book. I just don’t understand how he can stay in one position longer than ten minutes. So far, in all this time there is not one position that I haven’t sat in known to man.

“You ready to go?” Jason asked when it was nearly six
“Yeah, just gimme a sec” I finished my sentence then began to pack up. We began to make our way out.
“You sure you can walk down the steps or do I have to carry you again?” his eyebrows raised and smiled. I looked at him
“Thank you but no thank you” I went down the first step and he followed, I could see from the corner of my eye that he was smiling. These were the times where I wish I could read minds like Edward (Twilight series). I waved goodbye to Caron then we went home.

Once we arrived I took of the seat belt and waved at Jason, opening the car door.
“Hey, do me a favour?” he said before I got out the car
“Sure…”
“Look outside your window in 35 minutes” I narrowed my eyebrows at his ‘favour’.
“Please” he pleaded softly. I smiled at him then nodded. I walked to the door step and went inside. I went to my room and got changed into my night gown, the new one Mag had just brought me yesterday. It was a silver, plain, silk gown that was sleeveless. I sat on my bed waiting for the time to pass. Twenty minutes left. I felt like a weirdo just sitting on my bed waiting for something I had no idea about, so I went to take a shower. I undressed again thinking of how daft I was for getting undressed twice when I could have just had a shower to start with.

After re-changing into my clothes, I let my wet hair down to dry and went back into my room. I froze. I think Josh and Chris were right about me being stalked. There was a red rose and a small note on my bed. Now that rose had love written all over it. I went towards it and picked the rose first. It was a velvet rose, I could tell by the texture of the petals. The rose had a deep, strong fragrance. The note was next which said… ‘Look out your window now’. I did as the note said and went towards the widow. On my window sill was a small stuffed teddy. I opened my window and heard light piano music I could tell it was ‘Moonlight by Yiruma’ I looked outside. My eyes wide. My body stiff. My heart was racing. My breathing amplified. I blinked.
