Chapter 10 - Lost
Many weeks passed maybe months. In that time me and Jason began to spend a lot of time together, he even started to drop me off to college then take me home. I reckon our friendship got stronger by the minute. It was Friday now the last day till the year ends. I decided not to go to the library today. Therefore I took my time walking home, because Dave had to borrow my car. The trees swayed along with the soft breeze, birds flying from every direction looking like dark flashes zooming past. The bright sun pushing through the clouds made them look slightly pink giving the sky a magical look. Jason hadn’t showed up since Monday. All he told me was that he was not coming but instead he didn’t come for a week. Sunday I stayed home spending time with Mag while Dave was out at his friend’s house. Monday I spent deciding what I was going to wear for the groups hiking trip and then Tuesday came. Despite it only being a week since I saw Jason, I was yearning to see him.
I wore my three quarter black jeggings and a dark blue T-shirt with some trainers.
“Mag I’m going” I said as I opened the main door.
“Okay be safe” she shouted from the kitchen. I opened the door and there was Jason on his new yellow and black motorbike with a bag behind him. He took off his helmet and came towards me.
“Hi” he said. I was so thrilled to see him that I jumped up and hugged him.
“Well aren’t you happy to see me” he returned the hug. I released my tight grip around his neck and punched him. “What was that for?” he asked rubbing his arm.
“For going away for a week” he laughed at my comment. He held my hand then spoke.
“Sorry, I promise form this day on I’ll never leave without letting you know” he smiled then realised my hand and got on the bike.
“Hop on, Kate wants to meet at one and we have forty-five minutes” he said running his fingers though his hair, giving it volume. I stood there thinking if I should get on, he held his smile. I grabbed my bag and sat behind him.The engine roared to life giving me a jolt. He drove off with me half hanging off the bike.
“You know it might be better if you hold on to me” he said above the noise.
“No thanks, I’m fine” I held onto the seat
“Your choice, you’ll come around” I felt the wind pressure increase, he was going faster on purpose. The bike got faster and faster by the minute forcing me to make a move. I was literally falling of now so I quickly wrapped my arms around his waist and pulled myself back onto the seat.
“Was that so hard?” he said slowing the bike down but still fast enough; compelling me to hold on. A few minutes later we were at the mountains. I could see a hand waving in the distance; when we got closer I had a clearer view of who was waving. It was Josh, he began jumping up and down as if we were miles away.
“I see you two came together” Kate whispered to me when I got off the bike
“Shut up” I said putting my bag behind my back. We all walked for a couple of minutes until we reached the steps leading up to the mountains and from there the trees covered my view. We took are time to get up the stairs as there weren’t many steps maybe about twenty but the fact that they had a long length and height it took us time to reach the top.Hiking was a long and tiring process but once we got to the top it was worth the wait. The top of the mountains felt more like a fantasy than reality. There was an endless field of grass and bright flowers from every angle I observed. Straight ahead in the far distance I saw a tiny building with small figures moving. Warm wind touched me from every direction, the sun shining on the ground making each strand of grass gleam. I stood in my spot for a few minutes taking in the magnificent view. I closed my eyes, and inhaled the fresh air taking my time to exhale.
“Lobster” Jason’s soft voice whispered in my cold ear my eyes remained closed.
“What” I said quietly
“Hurry up, their leaving” his voice got deeper and louder
I flung my eyes open and saw everyone running ahead while I was still standing. Jason too began walking, I caught up with him.The sky got darker. Everyone went their own way, walking, sitting and running around the open space. I began walking to the end of the field. I took a peak below me, my eyes took their time to reach the very bottom where I saw a few cars zoom past the narrow road. I was like fifty feet high from the road. I sat down and looked at the sky, I had the perfect view till sundown. I saw the sun set, it felt great to be alone and enjoy the moment while it lasts. I closed my eyes, inhaling and exhaling slowly. The footsteps got louder as they approached me, I turned and saw it was Jason. He was waving his hands in the air and saying something but I couldn’t hear him over the wind. Ignoring him was a big mistake.
“What the hell are you doing?” he yelled grabbing me by the arm
“What” I tried to pull free instead the grip tightened. He pulled me up with the one arm resulting with me being inches away from him.
“I’ve been going crazy looking for you” his voice got angrier as his words came out
“But I …”
“Just come, everyone’s waiting” he grabbed my bag from the ground and held my hand forcing me to run behind him.We ran for a good twenty minutes, running towards our starting point. We froze
“Jason” I said in an apologetic tone
“Shut up, just shut up okay” his tone got angrier, deeper. A voice I had never come across.
“I… Jason...” he cut me off
“Don’t say a word, just follow” he began walking faster looking for the others. We both knew we were alone and that Jason had no idea where he was going but I didn’t say anything. We walked around for a long while and still couldn’t find our way out or any of our friends. He began to walk into the forest area and eventually we ended up completely lost.
“Jason call someone” I said quietly
“Oh right yeah coz this place is packed with people. Who do you think we should ask eh?” he said smiling at me sarcastically then rolled his eyes and carried on walking
“Don’t have to be mean you know” he looked back making me take a step back.
We wondered around a little more till finally Jason gave up.“I think we need to spend the night here, it’s getting dark” he said taking a seat on the ground
“I’m not spending the night here” I put my hand in my bag, reaching for my flash light. I turned it on and flashed it directly into his eyes making him put his hand in the way.
“Let’s go” I said. We walked around for longer, this time with me in the lead. One minute I was walking, shinning the light above me and the next I was on the floor crying in pain. One hand still clutched onto the flash light and my other hand tightly wrapped around my leg.
“Lobster are you okay?” Jason’s voice was tense
“I don’t know…my leg” I said almost about to cry but I held the tears back.
“Wait, lemme see” he said. He carried me in his arms and off the ground. He walked around a little with me still holding the torch. We found a log and he placed me on it. I shined the light on my leg, I took one glimpse at my leg and in that one second of looking all I saw was blood, drizzling out my leg. “You’ve got a deep cut, it’s bleeding like hell” he said over exaggerating the word ‘hell’.He looked up and saw my face. “Don’t worry I’ll sort it out. Hold onto something” his eyes compelling me to trust him. I closed my eyes, nodded and clenched my fists. I heard something rip then felt something cold being wrapped around my leg tightly. The pain was unbearable so I began thinking. I thought about things that made me happy, things that gave me peace.
“Lobster?” a soft voice said, I opened my eyes realising where I was. I looked at my leg and saw a thick piece of cloth wrapped around it covering the wound.“Thanks” I said. I tried to bend my leg but the pain interfered forcing me to leave it in its position.
“Wait here. I’m going to find a better spot for us” he said then went. After a couple of minutes he came back. “Legs go” he picked up our bags and swung it over his shoulder. I tried to get it but it was no use so Jason bent down and lifted me off the ground. As he walked i held onto him tighter like a baby with its mother. The spot he found was flat and had a few tress forming a circle. It looked like an old camp. He placed me down, leaning me against one of the tress then took of his jacket, which is when I noticed one of his selves was gone. Explaining the thick material wrapped around my leg. He used what was left of his jacket as a blanket for me and grabbed my bag, lifting my head placing the bag under me. I looked at him as he did this.
“Jason” I said, hardly any sound come out but somehow he heard me (he was very close to me).
“Yeah” he didn’t look at me as he was setting the bag.
“Thank you” I said, he looked down me, and our eyes meet again.
“You need sleep”. He kissed me forehead then went to the opposite tree. I looked at him as his eyes slowly closed. I looked at his face. The way his lips perfectly closed forming a small heart shape. His hard face loosed giving it a soft and calm look. My eyes found his hair, the way it lightly moved against the wind. His hair covered his small ear, his shoulder was lifted lightly leaning against his check. He looked so beautiful when he slept. I smiled the closed my eyes and fell asleep.
