*Amy's POV*

"Do you ever think you'll be friends with Karma again..?" I heard Shane ask me softly.

I couldn't answer; I still felt numb. I never thought I'd yell at my best friend in the whole world and tell her to stay away from me.

Was this just a bad dream?

Me and Karma not being friends was like the moon not shining at night, or water not flowing through a river. Our friendship was something that was supposed to last a lifetime-not fall apart a year before we started high school.

Shane asked me again, this time placing a hand on my shoulder because he could tell I was still upset. Evan had marching band practice, so it was just the two of us in his basement, a sad vibe filling the room.

I just shrugged, sighing. "This is all my fault, isn't it? I let my jealousy get the better of me and blew up at Karma so now she hates me.."

The thought of me ruining our friendship made me feel sick inside, but I couldn't help but think that maybe it was all my fault.

Shane shook his head furiously, gasping. "No! It's not your fault at all-not one bit. You have a right to be upset, what Karma did wasn't right. She basically threw you to the curb once Liam came along! Why would you blame it all on yourself?" He was slightly irritated with me, I could tell.

I shrugged again, wanting to sink into the couch cushions and disappear. "..I-It's just hard to believe that Karma of all people was the one to do me wrong. She is-or was..my..my best friend. There was no one else but her and she really just forgot about me, and us, for a stupid boy. I don't get it."

My friend just gave me a small hug, trying to make me feel better. "It happens, Amy. And it sucks, I know, but it's a part of life.

We're all starting our teenage years and we're gonna act a fool. It's going to be hectic, hearts are gonna get broken, and maybe a few will end up pregnant by gradua-"

"Shane!"

"..Sorry. Just talking truth. Anywayyy, all I'm saying is that you can't beat yourself up about this forever. If things are meant to be, you and Karma will be friends again eventually!"

I smiled at his words, knowing he was right. It was just what I needed to hear at a time like this.

"..Thanks, Shane." I reached over and awkwardly hugged him.

He chuckled, hugging back. "You're welcome, hun."

Suddenly we heard steps coming down the basement stairs.

It was Sarah, Shane's mom, decked out in a soft pink apron that read "Sarah's Sweets" food stains on it and socks that looked like they were made for seven year old girls: sparkly pink with cartoon cupcakes. Her long dark hair was styled into a trendy beehive, almost like an Amy Winehouse hairdo, and she was carrying a whisking spoon.

"Oooh, Shane sweetheart, you've got yourself a little lady friend?" She asked with a bright, almost hopeful looking smile. Her eyes were sort of wild.
