"Hi!! I'm Karma!" A pudgy little brunette wearing a floral dress and black Mary Jane shoes chirped happily. It was her first day of kindergarten at Rutherford Elementary School, and she was trying her best to make a new friend, even though the day had just begun.

Her parents advised her to be kind to everyone, and "radiate good vibes" amongst her peers, because apparently she'd make tons of friends if she did that.

The first girl Karma had approached was a lanky blonde girl with bright green eyes, who was wearing dark blue overalls and a striped red and white shirt and red Converse shoes. She was focused intently on playing on her GameBoy, immune to any sense of socializing.

Her mother had advised her to talk to people more-not to be so "antisocial and grumpy", and most importantly, not to embarrass herself or her mama.

"Hello..?" Karma asked, waving her hand in front of the girl's face.

She dropped the device and grunted. "What's the big idea?!" She said. "Why did you do that? I was almost gonna get to the next level!"

Karma's lip trembled. She was a sensitive child.

"..I-I.."

"Are you cryin'?" The blonde asked, eyeing her. She wasn't interested in dealing with people's emotions, but she also didn't want to get in trouble..causing embarrassment for her and her mother.

Karma sniffled quickly. "Nooo..I just have seasonal allergies," she declared. She stuck her nose up in the air, determined to stay positive and confident. The day wasn't over..she wanted this girl to be her friend, despite the fact that she came off as a bit harsh.

The other girl chuckled a little. She'd never met anyone quite like Karma. In the two minutes they'd been interacting, something about this kid was growing on her.

She adjusted her red beanie and smiled lightly. "Amy," she said.

"Huh?" Karma was confused.

"Amy is my name," she explained, wondering what else she could've meant.

Suddenly Karma didn't feel as smart as before. "Oh, what a pretty name! I'm Karma Ashcroft!"

"I know..I heard ya before." Amy winked and picked up her GameBoy, happy to see there was no damage.

She put it in her backpack as Mrs. Underwood, their teacher, called everyone to their seats so they could begin class.

The two girls ironically ended up sitting next to each other, much to their delight. They'd only been friends for less than a day, but when you're five years old, none of that matters. All that was important was that they both liked animal stickers and climbing trees and hoped to be best friends forever.

"Hey you," Amy whispered across to Amy, who was humming as she colored a picture of a garden.

"Hmm..?" She asked, not looking up.

"Meet me by the swings at recess," is all she said before returning to her picture of a dinosaur.

At recess, all the kids in the kindergarten class were running around, giggling and playing around like there was no tomorrow, but Amy and Karma sat on the swings, just the two of them, content with each other's company.

"What's your favorite color?" Amy asked Karma.

"Ooh, that's easy! Pink!!" She grinned.

Amy stuck her finger in her mouth, pretend gagging. "Yuck. I like red."
