"Hey, sit next to me," Karma told Amy as they walked into Mrs. Parker's class, the last class of the day, thank goodness.
"I was actually gonna sit next to Lizzie-she has the best history notes in the class; they're like really eleaborate with flashcards and shit," Amy explained. "I need them to copy for the exam next week."
Karma rolled her eyes. "That's why they invented Quizlet, duh," she laughed. "I'll help you study later-I have an A in here. Just sit by me, please?"
It was no secret Amy could hardly ever say no to the girl. She'd been whipped for years now, and Karma basically had her wrapped around her finger.
They took a seat in the back alone, waiting for their teacher to arrive. As they chatted idly, they couldn't help but overhear people whispering things about them.
"I think they're dykes," Isabel Ford commented with a laugh.
"No way, they can't be-the chubby one got knocked up by that rich kid...Liam or something. There's no way she's a dyke."
"...That's so sad how much weight she put on, she used to be so pretty..."
"Having a baby can make you ugly," another chuckled, scrunching up her face in disgust. "Well, uglier.."
"What's the deal with those two in the back? Are they smashing or what?"
"Don't be an idiot-she's preggers. Her stomach's too big now to do anything," they all snorted, howling with laughter. They were acting like Karma and Amy weren't in the room at all.
Karma sighed, placing a hand over her stomach. She was 8 months along now. Eight long months she'd had to deal with living like this everyday..so close to the finish line, but at the same time, she was kind of always going to be stuck at the start. You'd think people would eventually get bored of talking about her being pregnant, it wasn't breaking news or anything, but yet they still continued to taunt her. That's why she usually sat alone now-unless she had class with Amy or Shaylee.
Shaylee Benson was beautiful. She was part Native American and had long black hair and gorgeous grey eyes. She was a transfer student from Philly that had come to Hester a few months back-ironically, she was pregnant as well...with triplets.
"3 BABIES??" Karma asked in disbelief, her eyes almost popping out of their sockets. She wasn't even entirely ready for one child, but knowing that another girl who was the exact same age as her was pregnant with triplets was just insane. She wasn't all that religious, but she definitely thanked God that wasn't her life.
Anyway, Shaylee was actually very sweet and funny. She always talked about how she was excited to be a mom, it was something she'd always wanted. She also talked about how she and he boyfriend Kenny were going to get married right after high school-yes, she was "that girl".
Karma didn't exactly agree with some of the things Shaylee said, but she couldn't judge. She and Karma had a lot in common and bonded over the struggles of being teenage moms. The brunette was grateful for someone who finally related to her and the exact things she was dealing with. It was easy to say "I know how you feel" without really meaning it-none of the other teens Karma knew were pregnant. Before meeting Shaylee, she felt like the odd one out.
