"Don't you look just ravishing!" Farrah exclaimed, smiling brightly as her daughter stood in front of the dressing room stall at Macy's.

Amy frowned, rolling her eyes. "I look like I rolled around in a big pool of Pepto Bismol and feathers," she mumbled.

She looked down at her dress, a bubblegum pink color with
feathers circling around at the bottom.

"Oh, hush," her mother said. "You look adorable!"

"Mom, I'm 13...adorable wasn't exactly what I was going for," Amy protested. To say the least, she hated the dress.

Farrah sighed. "It's cute, Amy. I'm sure you'll fall in love with it once you try on your shoes! Go on now," she said, signaling to the shoe box on the floor.

Amy groaned. Where was Karma when she needed her?

She reluctantly put on the matching bright pink platform heels and rolled her eyes. "Happy now?"

Farrah squealed, clapping. "You look so pretty! Ah, my baby."

'Kill me now,' she thought, looking in the mirror.

"It's just one dance, one stupid eighth grade dance and it'll only last a few hours," Amy reminder herself a few minutes later as she was alone in the changing room, taking off her dress. "And plus, I'll have Karma there with me."

Karma.

Karma.

The name sent chills through her spine as she imagined the small brunette behind her; helping her unzip the dress and slowly pull it off of her carefully, calling her beautiful.

"I don't think you look ridiculous," she imagined the girl whispering in her ear. "You look cute. You know how much I love pink."

Amy felt all tingly inside. Karma did love pink.

A small smile appeared on her face as she put the dress back on the hanger.

Hopefully she'd be able to impress Karma with it.

She'd eventually identified all of her 'weird and confusing' feelings for her best friend as a crush, and would now try to do anything she could to vie for the girl's attention in more than a friendly way; even if she'd never feel the same.

"Ready to go, darlin'?" Farrah asked after the cashier had rung up the dress and shoes.

"You have fun at your dance!" The elderly woman said with a smile as she handed Amy the bag.

The blonde blushed, thinking of seeing Karma in her dress, and nodded. "Oh, I'll try."

"See..?" Farrah said as they drove back home after shopping. "You came around and ended up liking the dress! What'd I tell you?"

Amy sighed, tapping away at a stupid game on her phone. "Whatever, ma."

Farrah smacked her lips, shaking her head. "Well miss attitude, what made you change your mind on the dress-if I can ask you that without a sassy response?"

Amy bit her lip, obviously not opting with telling her mom the truth. "I dunno; I guess I just figured since it's a stupid little school dance I might as well wear the dress and get it over with." She shrugged, keeping her eyes on the phone screen.
