[A year later, first day of sophomore year]

Amy walked into Hester High with Karma, already bored, and it was only five minutes into the first day.

"Ahh! We're sophomores!" Karma said excitedly, pulling out her schedule and looking down at it. "I've got geometry first period, what about you?"

Amy pulled her wrinkled paper out of her jean pocket. "Uh..health. Gross. I'm probably gonna have to watch a video of someone giving birth or something." She shuddered.

Karma laughed. "Well, at least we've got lunch together! See you then?" She said with a bright smile before turning when someone tapped her back.

"Huh?"

"Hey, beauty." Liam grinned, holding out a rose to the girl.

Amy resisted the urge to gag. They had been dating for a year and a half (except for their short 3 week 'break' in 9th grade after Liam had missed Karma's birthday because he was out with some girls he claimed were from one of his classes and they were having a 'study session'), but Amy still had a bad feeling everyday about their relationship.

"Aww, it's so pretty! Thanks, baby." She blushed, hugging him.

"You're welcome, bae. Come on, let me walk you to class." He smiled, linking arms with her, completely ignoring Amy and walking off.

The blonde cringed at the word bae and shook her head with a scoff. All Amy wanted to do was grab a megaphone and yell into Karma's face that she needed to drop Liam for good.

Suddenly, Shane slid in beside her.
"Hey, girl."

"Hi," Amy said flatly.

"You're acting like a zombie already?! It's not even 8:30 yet!" He raised an eyebrow.

"S-Sorry," Amy sighed, tucking her schedule back into her pocket. She was lucky that Shane had first period with her as well so they could talk more.

"..I mean, it's just exhausting! He's a sleazeball-"

"I know, Ames. I know. We've been dealing with this forever-I'm just as done with this as you are, but you can't help her if she won't help herself! And I really want us to enjoy our sophomore year-I'm gonna join the cheer team and you need to free your mind and do something, too! Like basketball! What happened to that?"

Amy shrugged, sitting down in a seat in the back row next to Shane.

"I dunno..I just don't have the same drive for it anymore, I guess. After I hurt my leg last year, I kinda gave up.." She sighed.

"Aw, come on Amy Amy Amy. You love basketball! Don't let that stop you. You and I could tear it up this year-you'll be the star athlete and I'mma be your cheerleader!" He winked, doing the jazz hands. Both teens began cackling before the teacher gave them an angry look.

"We'll talk more later," Shane whispered.

"Thanks," Amy mouthed before pulling out her notebook and beginning to write what was on the board.
