Amy woke up on the morning of her 16th birthday, feeling hopeful.

Usually, her birthday wasn't a huge deal; she and her mother would go out to a simple dinner, then Karma would come over for cake or maybe a sleepover, but not so much in recent years because her mother had grown slightly suspicious of things the girls might've been up to while they were alone.

Unfortunately for Amy, none of what Farrah assumed might happen, well, happened. The closest she got to intimacy with Karma was when they cuddled while watching some cheesy sappy movie she'd begged to turn on.

Then also Amy's wet dreams.

But that was an entirely different story for a different time.

"Good morning, honey bunch!" Farrah exclaimed, bursting into her daughter's room happily. She opened her curtains, exposing the bright and harsh sunlight.

"Agh! Mom, stop! I'm a vampire," she slightly whined, covering her head with her blanket as she attempted to shield herself from the death ray outside her window called the sun.

"Oh, hush," Farrah laughed, sitting on the blonde's bed, removing the blanket. "Happy birthday, sweetie. I love you loads," she said sweetly, hugging her tight.

Amy wasn't used to much sincere affection from her mother, so she definitely didn't want to take this moment for granted. "Thanks, mom," she said, hugging her back.

"Come on, get up and get showered and dressed so we can leave! I took work off so that you and I could spend the day together, baby." Farrah smiled brightly, obvious excitement in her voice.

Amy was seriously shocked. No nagging? No wedding talk? She'd even taken the whole day off of work just for her-something that never happened.

"You're kidding?" Amy asked, more to herself than her mother.

"Nope. I just figured that since it's my kid's 16th birthday, it's an extremely special occasion! You only turn 16 once, so missing one day of work for you is worth it. We can do anything you'd like, too! Maybe a nice breakfast at your favorite spot, or....."

Amy's mind trailed off. Guilt suddenly hit her like a train on a track.

Ciara.

She and the dark skinned girl had already made plans to spend the day together for her birthday. Ciara planned out a trip and everything!

How could this be happening?

As if things couldn't get any more complicated, her phone starting ringing; an incoming call from none other than Karma.

"..Hello?"

"HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY, HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY, HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY, TO YOU TO YOU TO YOU, OLÉ!!" The brunette practically screeched into the phone.

Amy laughed, thanking whoever was up there for Karma and all the insanity that came along with her. "Haha, thanks."

"What do you have planned for today, birthday girl?? I was thinking that you and I could hang out-maybe go downtown to that cool hipster arts festival you've been talking about these past few weeks? I heard the music's great, and-"

"Amy! Come on and get ready!" Farrah called from the hallway.

Then, suddenly, in unbelievably awful timing another person was calling her as well. "Ugh, K, could you hold on a sec? Someone's trying to call me on the other line.."
