~~Pirbright Army Barracks~~

Normal POV

Walking onto the barracks this time around feels.. different. There is a heavy ache in my chest and my eyes are still stinging from the tears that fell freely as soon as I lost sight of my family standing on the Platform back at the station. Part of me wanting to get off the train and run back to them, but in doing that I know I would be abandoning the job I have worked so hard for. The reason I do this job is to save lives, and right now that's what I need to go and do. It didn't take long for the train to arrive and it was a short walk to the Barracks so I opted for the walk rather than getting a taxi. The walk here was calm and quiet, the odd supply truck passing by before I arrived at the front gates. As soon as I show my badge, I was let through with a friendly smile and I made my way towards the usual building for the overnight stay until we fly out tomorrow. My eyes flickering around, taking in the familiar sight of Soldiers running drills on the fields or moving equipment from one building to another. The almost comforting sounds of shouting orders and quick footsteps giving me a small reason to smile again. I guess I'm home from home again. I got lost taking in the sights until some very loud, boisterous voices start calling my name in excitement. "CAPTAIN LANE!" One voice yelling louder than the rest coming from Miles who quickly rushes to greet me before everyone else.

I drop my duffle bag from my hand as Miles runs up to me with open arms, which I quickly reciprocate and pull him into a bear hug. I can't help but laugh as he squeezes the life out of me before everyone else appears behind him. "Glad to see you've missed me Miles!" I joke as he pulls away with a beaming smile. "Always do Cap." He jokes back teasingly so I quickly punch his chest playfully making him wince a little as I turn my attention back to the rest of the guys. "Good to see you Lane." Kai steps forward for a hug followed by Bones, Sparky and Tyler. We all greet each other like normal, our missing link becoming more noticeable as I find myself searching for him around the group. "He's going to be a miss out there.." Tyler catches on to my shifting gaze making me smile softly at him. "He is, but he will be back for the next one no doubt. Are we getting someone in to help us does anyone know?" I ask the group, scanning around to see if anyone has been told anything but they are all quick to shake their heads indicating nothing has been said before my arrival. "Someone going to point me in the direction of our home for the night then?" I change the subject, making them all laugh lightly as Miles quickly grabs my bag from the floor. "Come on, we'll all head that way and wait for Summers." Everyone cheers in agreement as I follow their lead to our assigned barracks for the night to drop my bags off since it is nearing 11:00am.

Once my bags are sitting at the bottom of my bunk, I sat down on my bed and we all fell into conversation, catching up on life since Tyler's wedding. To begin with, I manage to just sit back and listen to the guys as they take it in turns telling everyone snippets of anything worth sharing. From Tyler's honeymoon too Sparky's wild nights out. We laugh and joke with each other and my genuine smile is back on my face now I'm back with 7 Section. My second family. But it soon comes around to my turn when Tyler is quick to start questioning my new relationship status. "So Lane, not only do you have Spider-Man for your best mate, now you have none other than Wanda Maximoff for a girlfriend! How the fuck did that happen?" He jokes making everyone join in his laughter as I just shake my head with a small chuckle leaving my lips at his teasing tone. "Yeah Lane! We need details!" Bones quickly adds making me sit up at the edge of my bed, knowing this subject will not go away easily. I clear my throat, ready to tell them what I want to say, but we are all caught off guard by the door opening behind us and the all too familiar deep voice of Captain Summers bellows into the room. "7 SECTION!" He yells, and everyone darts to stand to attention at the end of their beds. I scramble to do the same, standing up to attention before Charlie stands and calls out again in a slightly quieter tone of voice. "At ease guys!" And at his request, we relax to stand at ease.
