~~Day 21, Nepal~~
Normal POV
"LANE! OVER HERE!" Tyler's voice screams across the room as he rushes to a free bed with a body in his arms. I quickly swap out my gloves as I run over to where he is, looking down at the pale body now lying on the bed infront of me. "She collapsed outside, looks like a bang to the head from something and a broken arm." Tyler explains as I begin carrying out my initial checks on the girl, who can't be any older than 14. "Alright Tyler, I need you to get some gauzes and sterile wipes for me." He quickly rushes off to the various medical cabinets now scattered around the medical centre to get what I need as I check the girls vitals. She's breathing thankfully, not many have been that have arrived over the past 24 hours. The second Earthquake has hit people worse than the first. "What can I do Lane." Tyler snaps me from my routine checks as he hands me the gauzes. "Start cleaning around the cut on her head so I can see how bad it is, I'll make sure there is nothing more going on." Tyler nods and gets to work as I carry out my secondary checks, making sure she has no further injuries before moving to see how bad the break in her arm is. Luckily, it's a clean break with no breaks in the skin, which means no initial concern of infection. I take a strip of fabric from the cabinet to fashion a make-shift sling to support her arm into a more comfortable position across her chest just as Tyler finishes cleaning her head. "It's going to need stitches Lane." I nod and get what I need before getting to work on closing her wound, taking my time since I have yet had any sleep and my eyes are stinging from the tiredness slowly creeping up on me.
The Medical Centre is pretty much full and we have no idea when any kind of transport is going to arrive to start getting people to any nearby hospitals who have beds and staff. Dr Patel and Dr Miller have returned to working at the hospitals to try and assist there but Dr Karr was never going to leave the Centre so we have been doing what we can with what we have, luckily enough, 7 Section have been amazing in helping us with what they can as myself, Natalia and Dr Karr have been treating everyone who has passed the main doors. I've got Tyler, Miles and Bones outside the Medical Centre helping people inside since people have been arriving in anyway they can without proper transport. The rest of us have been inside doing what we can but many have been lost already it's hard to not let it bring you down. Charlie has been running between everyone, doing what he can, as well as making sure we are staying hydrated and eating whenever we get a small window too. I've completely lost track of time at this point but I know it's more than 24 hours. Thankfully, we've only had 2 aftershocks so far which were only minor so I'm hoping they don't get any worse. "Alright Tyler, move her over to Dr Karr and he will get her settled into the right place." I tell Tyler as I finish the stitches. "On it Cap." I smile as he moves her carefully across to where Dr Karr is filling out various charts as I take off my gloves and head over to wash my hands. I let myself take a breather as I do, before feeling a hand on my back, knowing exactly who it will be before she even speaks. "You good Lane?" Natalia asks softly as I leave my hands under the water as my head leans forward on the wall.
"Always.. How you doing?" I reply in a quiet tone. I catch her tired sigh leave her lips as she leans back against the wall beside me. "I'm not going to lie to you Lane, It's been hell." I laugh lightly as I start drying my hands and turn to face her. "Oh yeah, no doubt about that. But it looks like it's slowing down for now." I comment hopefully as I notice a quieter atmosphere in and around the centre with no one outside the doors anymore. "I hope so." I smile softly as I see how bloodshot her eyes are from the lack of sleep. I go to tell her to go rest but before I can begin to say anything, Charlie appears as if from no where. "Lane, Jones, how you both doing?" We both look to him, seeing even he is struggling from the lack of sleep now. "Good. How's the guys?" I return and lean back against the sink behind me. "There drained but good. Looks like things are calming down for now. Is there anything you need doing by us?" I look around the room, seeing nothing but people lying there waiting to be moved to a hospital. "We need transport Charlie." I deadpan and he hums in agreement, following my eyeline around the room. "Your right. We need to get out and clear the roads." I nod in agreement as he looks for the guys around the room. "It's 14:00 hours. So I'll take the guys out to try and locate any disruptions on the roads and hopefully get you some transport sooner rather than later. Will you be okay here?" I turn to look at Natalia, who gives me a confident nod. "We'll be alright. Go get the guys out there." I tell Charlie, who nods and smiles softy in reply. "We'll leave you some supplies in the office, make sure you eat and drink when you can." We both agree with him before he moves to gather the guys up and get ready to move out.
"How we looking Dr Karr?" I ask as I carry out some checks on the patient infront of him. "Well, things seem to be slowing down which is good. Just another waiting game for transport now." I nod my head in agreement with his words as I slip off my gloves and fill out the chart on the side of the bed beside me. "7 Section are going to do what they can with clearing the roads and hopefully get some communications back up and running." I inform him and his smile grows at the new information. "Great news Harley. You have one hell of a team by your side. You must be very proud of them." I smile at his words, seeing how genuine they are from his expression. "I am very proud to be part of 7 Section Dr Karr." He smiles and pats my shoulder before we part ways to check on different patients around the room, Natalia doing the same as the next few hours go by a lot calmer and quieter. We take some time to have food when we get the chance before I see the time is now getting into the late evening. I make my way over to Natalia, who is really starting to struggle but is trying to push through the tiredness. I stop her and hand her a bottle of water, which she gladly accepts and takes a second as I talk with her. "We need to start thinking about getting some sleep between the three of us or else we are going to put people at risk." I say softly and see her nod slowly in agreement. "Why don't you go first, get a couple of hours rest in the office?" She snaps her head to me, surprised by my words. "What about you and Dr Karr?" I smile at her words, but she is new to this and I know Dr Karr will agree with my decision. "We'll be fine for another couple of hours. There is a sleeping bag in the office, go get some rest. I'll come get you in a couple of hours." The relieved smile on her face is enough to make me smile in return as she heads off towards the office for some well deserved rest.
"Just the two of us for now Doctor. I've sent Natalia for some sleep." I inform Dr Karr and he smiles in return. "Good to hear. We might as well take advantage of the quieter moments when we can." I nod in agreement, feeling the stinging in my own eyes only getting worse as I notice the darkness outside of our second night down here. "My thoughts exactly. A couple of hours sleep and some food is what we all need to keep us going." He chuckles as he lowers his water bottle from his lips as we just take a moment in the calm room. "Your one of a kind Harley.. I'm glad you arrived here with your team." I can't help the smile that grows across my lips, the compliment meaning a lot from someone like him. "Thank you Dr Karr. I'm just happy we could help." I take a drink from my own water, my eyes scanning the room. For all we have lost people, we have also managed to help so many more. And that is what matters in times like this. "Any news from home yet for any of you?" Dr Karr asks softly and I just shake my head no. "Not yet." I sigh out, knowing everyone will be worried as soon as they find out about the second Earthquake hitting. Especially since I left it a few days without realising to send any news home before the communications went down. "Hopefully won't be too long until they do. Are your family back in London?" I smile thinking about them, knowing Maisie will be bugging the life out of Dad until they get any news. "Yeah, My Dad and younger Sister." I catch his smile at my words, nodding his head softly. "Anyone special back in London who will be missing you?" He teases lightly as he nudges my shoulder and my smile falters at the thought of Lizzie worrying about me, hoping she has someone there with her and she isn't alone..
"Not in London but there is someone special.." I reply through a tightening chest and lump in my throat. "Hardest part of the job no doubt. Leaving those you care about.." I nod my head at his words as tears begin to form in my tired eyes. "Without a doubt." I reply quietly before feeling his hand on my shoulder. "You do an amazing job where ever you go Harley.. And those who love and care for you know that too. They will all be so proud of you. They make everything worth while when you get to go home and hold them close. Hold onto that and you'll be with them in no time." His words hit home as I feel a tear escape and roll down my cheek. My heart clenching at the idea of being able to reach out and hold them again. "Your right. They keep me going no matter where I am in the World." I reply softly as he squeezes my shoulder in his hand. "They always will." We let the quiet night take over the room as we just have a moment, tears running down my cheeks as I think about everyone at home. Dad, Maisie, Tom.. And Lizzie. How much I would give to see them and be able to just hug them, let them know I am okay and will be home soon. Given half the chance, I would fly home just for a minute to see them. Tell them how much they mean to me, how much I love them. As much as I love this job, times like this make me think about what I leave behind. Thoughts about leaving the Army slowly creep in until I look around and see the people I am able to help being here. What I trained so hard for. My mind going back and fourth a lot more than it used too. But the one smile comes to mind and I get lost thinking about her and everything fades away.. My mind remembering everything I love about her. Those green eyes looking back at me, giving me all the comfort I'll ever need.
~~ Saturday afternoon, L.A.~~
Lizzie POV
I've never been so thankful for Scarlett, she's not left my side since my phone call with Stuart last night. Luckily, neither of us had anything to do today so after a very restless and sleepless night, we spent the day out in the back garden since it is a nice day today. My mind has not stopped thinking about Harley, going through every type of scenario my thoughts could come up with. Good and bad. I barely slept, worrying in case I missed my phone ringing with any updates so my eyes are all red and puffy and stinging from the crying too. Thankfully, Scarlett managed to help me calm down from my panic attack that hit me when I came off the phone from Stuart, I don't know how I would have managed without her there. I've been messaging Maisie since the early hours of this morning, making sure she is okay. She is doing better than I am but I can tell how scared she is by some of her messages. Scarlett made us breakfast before suggesting for us to head outside, knowing I use my garden as a distraction so I got to work hoping it would help as Scarlett decided she was going to read with the radio playing through the kitchen window. Over breakfast, I managed to message my Sisters and Mom to tell them about Harley so they didn't hear it from anywhere else and panic. They were all quick to offer to come stay with me until I hear anything but I told them I have Scarlett here and they seemed to calm down before turning to worry about Harley. I love how much they care about her already, even though my Mom hasn't met her yet, she is still worried about her and wants her to be okay. My Sisters did make me laugh, warning that if anything happens they will team up on her for letting herself get hurt. I love the relationship they have already and it just makes my feelings grow for Harley so much more.
I lost track of how long I have been in the garden, but it is helping me stay calm and level headed, for now. It isn't until Scarlett comes over to kneel beside me as I am picking some blueberries. "You feel like having something to eat?" She asks softly and I turn to see her caring expression as she watches me carefully. "Sure, want me to make something?" I reply and she quickly shakes her head. "I don't mind, I'll make us some sandwiches or something." I smile at her soft tone before grabbing the fruit and veg I have picked to bring inside. We head inside and wash up before I make some coffee and Scarlett starts making some lunch for us. The radio is still playing into the kitchen as I carry out drinks to the table and wait for Scarlett to join me. I check through my phone as I wait, seeing some messages from my Mom and the Twins, as well as one from Tom. I open it up and see a quick message letting me know he is busy on Set but will ring me later. I smile as I reply, telling him I'm free whenever he is before turning to see Scarlett walking over with two plates of food. "Thanks Scar." I say as she puts my plate infront of me before sitting with her own. A small silence falls between us, the music playing from the radio the only sound in the kitchen for a little while as we eat. I know Scarlett wants to ask how I am doing, but I also know she hates to keep asking me. She knows I will go to her if I need her but right now, all I want is for Harley to let me know she is okay. I hate feeling so powerless over this. I wish I could just get on a plane and go see her but I can't and it hurts so much. But before I can fall into my spiraling thoughts again, Scarlett quickly pulls me out of them thankfully. "So when do you start filming again for Sorry For Your Loss?" I smile, knowing she could see me starting to worry again, hence the question out of the blue..
"Next week. Thankfully it's quite casual so there isn't a huge pressure like with Marvel but I'm looking forward to getting back into it." I catch her soft smile as I feel myself smiling at the thought of getting back to work again. "I can't wait to see it, I loved the first season." I can't help but let my smile grow, knowing how picky Scarlett is with what she watches. "Thanks Scar. I'm helping produce this season so I'm excited to get to learn something new as well as getting back into the character." I start to ramble but it's helping and Scar is always happy to hear me ramble about work, knowing how passionate I am about the characters I play. "Yeah I do like watching Leigh. She's different from your other characters." We both laugh softly in agreement, she's a lot more sarcastic and she has more to her than other characters I have played so it's been great to get to play someone different. And the cast I get to work with are all amazing so I have learnt so much from this project already. "What about you, any new projects coming up?" I tease, knowing she has something but hasn't told me about it properly yet. I catch her think about it before sighing, knowing I will find out from her eventually. "This goes no further.. But there's serious talks of getting started on a Black Widow Movie next year.." I can't contain my excitement at her words, it's about time she got her own Movie in the MCU. "That's incredible Scar! It's about time!" She laughs at my comment as we finish up our food and coffee. "It sounds amazing so far so I'm really excited to get started." I love seeing Scarlett so passionate about her work, she is so dedicated and deserves everything coming her way. But the happy moment between us is quickly interupted when we hear a news report coming through the radio discussing the Earthquake in Nepal..
".. We still have no news from inside the Villages that have been most effected by the second Earthquake in Nepal, and all roads leading anywhere nearby are blocked off by trees, buildings and even cars that were shifted during the tremors. We are aware of the British Military presence in those villages that are working to help those injured and assisting the re-build of schools and hospitals, but nothing has come to light from those teams at this moment in time. We believe efforts to re-establish communications are already taking place and news from the Villages will come soon.."
Instantly my chest tightens at the tone of the report. Everything becoming very real and hitting me all over again as I feel tears already filing my eyes as I stare over at where the radio is sitting. "Liz.." Scarlett's voice is so soft and I can barely make out what she said but I can't seem to bring myself to say anything. My mind on one thing again as I replay the words over and over again in my head. Then suddenly I feel Scarlett take hold of my hands as she turns me to face where she is now kneeling infront of me. "Lizzie, look at me." I take a breathe as I move my eyes from the radio and down to where Scarlett is already looking up at me. "Harley is going to be okay. They all are. And as soon as she can, she will be on that phone telling you herself that she is safe and okay." I try and believe her words but the doubts and fears are so strong. "What if she isn't okay Scar.. What is she is hurt.. Or worse." I choke out and Scarlett quickly squeezes my hands in hers to get my attention again. "Because I know she is okay. There's no way she would put herself in danger. She has so many reasons to come home safe and sound. She promised you she'd come home to you. She would never break a promise to you." I smile softly at her genuine words as I lift up one hand to wipe away my tears with the sleeve of my t-shirt. "Thanks Scar.." I whisper past my bubbling emotions, making her smile softly as she leans up to pull me into her arms. "I'm here for you Lizzie. Always." I let myself cry softly onto her shoulder, feeling her hands rubbing up and down my back as I try and push away the lingering thoughts of Harley being hurt in anyway and not being able to keep her promise to me..

~~Day 22, Nepal~~
Normal POV
"So, tell me more about Army Life Captain Lane.." I can't help but laugh lightly at Lizzie's teasing tone as we wait for our food to arrive. The views from the our table are amazing looking over the River but my eyes have not left Lizzie. She is flawless and looks so fucking beautiful. I was so nervous about this weekend away, considering we aren't even officially together but I'm so glad we're here now. This time together has been so special and I feel so much closer to her. And knowing we are going to my childhood home tomorrow is just going to makes these growing feelings for her intensify. I've never felt so close to someone so soon but Lizzie makes it so easy. "Well, what do you want know Miss Olsen?" I tease back making her giggle adorably behind her wine glass as her fingers play with the ring on my hand as our hands are resting on top of the table. "Tell me a war story.." She says softly, eyes never leaving my own as I start to think of a story I can share with her. "Alright, so on my Second Tour, we were in a small village in Africa. The heat was insane and we were all struggling but we had to do a walk through one of the villages so we could spread the word of the vaccinations our medic was offering to the kids. Half way through the village we stumbled over a group of kids playing football, or should I say Soccer for the American." I tease and quickly receive a playfully slap on my forearm on the table as Lizzie grumbles. "Don't start teasing me because I'm American!" She warns making me just laugh before I carry on my story.
"Anyways.. The guys quickly rush over being the big kids that they are. The kids instantly love the attention and start asking them to join in. Charlie just laughs and waves them off, so the guys drag us all in to play. We take off our vests and bags, leaving them with Charlie before getting involved with the game. Before we know it, most of the village is standing watching us as we are running around in huge boots and combats in this heat playing football. It was so funny watching the guys getting torn apart by these young kids. They beat us easily and we were all devastated. But we actually ended up in the local news and it meant loads of kids came to get vaccinated in the end." I finish my story with a smile, seeing Lizzie's beaming smile across the table, her eyes glowing from the candle light. "That is adorable. So not all your stories are sad ones then?" She says softly making me chuckle as I have a drink of my beer. "Not always.. I have some pretty embarrassing ones from our R and R adventures. The guys always end up doing something idiotic." We both laugh as I reach my other hand over the table for Lizzie's free hand and just take a moment to take in everything about her. "What are you staring at Soldier?" She asks as she follows my gaze carefully as I take in her perfect facial features. "I'm just.. Admiring my beautiful date. Wondering how I got so lucky.." I ramble a little too much but when I catch her smile growing as her cheeks are tinting red, I let my own smile grow just as much. "You, Harley Lane, are the sweetest person I have ever met." Lizzie replies softly as her eyes stare into my own, as if we are the only people in the World right now. "And you Elizabeth Olsen.. Are the most beautiful person to ever walk this Earth.."
"Harley.."
"Harley.."
"Lane." I quickly shoot up from where I am lying, crashing back to my reality that I am in fact asleep on the floor of an office, using my jacket as a pillow wrapped in a sleeping bag. "Argh my back.." I groan as I rub the sleep from my eyes and stretch out my body. "Yeah it's not the best of floors to sleep on.." Natalia jokes making me chuckle as I look over to where she is kneeling, holding out a bottle of water and a cereal bar for me. "Thanks." I take them and open the water, needing something to help my dry throat from the thick air in the room. "Feeling better after some sleep?" Natalia asks with a small smile. "A bit yeah. Everything okay out there?" I nod towards the door to the next room. "Nothing much has changed." I nod my head softly, thankful it's still calm out there. "Take your time and wake yourself up. I'll see you out there." I smile as Natalia leaves the office. I check my watch, seeing it's early morning before I get myself up and ready for the day. I get my uniform on and lace up my boots before clearing everything away and heading out into the center eating my protein bar as I do. I head straight over to the sink to wash my hands and face, swilling some mouth wash around my mouth before turning to dry my hands as Dr Karr walks over to greet me. "Good morning Harley." I smile as I dry my hands then grab a set of fresh gloves to slip over my hands. "Morning Doctor. How is everything?" He smiles and hands me a clipboard with everything I need to know. I glance over it and notice we are beginning to run low on medicine again which is concerning but nothing to worry about right away. "Great, we will cross that bridge when we come to it." I smile as I try not to let my small concern show, which seems to calm Dr Karr down in return. "Good idea." We both nod in agreement before I get to work again.
The day goes by without any hitches. Everyone in the center is doing well and hopefully they will all make it to the hospitals once the transport gets here. It's weird not having any way of communicating with 7 Section, it's a little uneasy not knowing how they are or what they are doing. I keep telling Natalia that no news usually means good news when it comes to anything like this but even I'm starting to worry. Just as I finish changing some bandages, I snap my head over to the doors as I hear a familiar sound of the truck pulling up outside. Natalia looks over with a relieved smile on her face, making me relax a little as I know I am not imagining things. I get washed up before heading outside to greet the guys, but as soon as I get outside the doors, I can't see them anywhere. I head down the steps carefully and as soon as my feet reach the dirt road, the horn goes again making me jump just as I see them all rush around from the back of the truck with huge smiles on their faces singing Happy Birthday. I can't help but laugh as they all come running over and surround me in a huge bear hug, pretty much suffocating me as they carry on singing before they let me go and I'm met with Charlie's apologetic smile as he comes over to hug me. "I had no say, they insisted on singing." He jokes making me just laugh even more as he pulls away and Miles comes over with what looks like a chocolate protein bar with a lighter sticking out of it. "Make a wish Cap!" He cheers as he flicks the lighter so I have a flame to blow out. I just shake my head but do as he instructs, blowing out the flame before he removes the lighter and hands me the protein bar. "Three cheers for Cap!" The guys all do three cheers as I eat the bar between laughing at their antics. They have actually lost their damn minds!
