I stared at myself in the mirror, nervously pushing my hair to the side. "I look like an idiot, May."
Aunt May came running in with a tie, shaking her head. "What? No, you don't, Y/N Parker. Hold still. You look like a proper gentleman."
Tightening my tie, I grumbled, somehow convinced to wear a suit for the final day of middle school. We were supposed to have a send-off speech and a little celebration disco afterwards. I'd been trying to keep it a secret from Aunt May, but she'd heard from Kirishima's parents. Now here I was.
"May, no one's going to wear a suit like this. It's the last day of middle school, not the homecoming dance," I muttered.
Sorting out my hair, she smiled, shaking her head. "I'm going to have none of it. You're graduating. If Uncle Ben could see you, all grown up like this."
I smiled faintly, rubbing the back of my neck. "May... can I go now? Harry's waiting for me."
Her eyes narrowed as she pressed me into a corner. "Why does it look so tight? You're not wearing anything underneath, are you?"
She wasn't wrong; I had my Spider costume under the suit, complete with my red spray-painted hoodie featuring a spider logo, paired with blue sweatpants. I sighed. "Ahh, no, of course not, May. I'm just growing. Please, can I go?"
Holding her camera up, she snapped one more picture. "Go on, then, sport. Enjoy yourself. And be back by eight at the latest, you hear me?"
I stepped out of the apartment, loosening my tie, groaning. "I can't believe this."
"Y/N? What the hell are you wearing?" Harry muttered, staring at me in his regular school uniform.
Hiding my face in embarrassment, I shoved him along as we walked. "Please don't say anything. May found out about the school dance and thought it would be a fantastic idea for me to wear a suit."
"But didn't you tell her no one is actually going to dress up?" Harry said, half-smiling.
"Yes! Like a dozen times! She didn't listen as if I didn't have enough to worry about already. I'm going to be the laughing stock." I dragged my feet, rubbing the scar left by the Chameleon.
"I'm sure no one will even notice," Harry said, though his tone lacked conviction.
A car drove past, and Senkō poked his head out of the passenger window, laughing. "Hey, Penis Parker! Going to your funeral? Nice monkey suit!"
My stomach dropped, and the world seemed to tilt. That was when Kirishima came running up, out of breath. "I caught up to you guys. I thought I was going to be late."
I looked at him, wearing casual jeans and a hoodie, and groaned even louder. "Hey, Kirishima..."
"Whoa! Were we supposed to dress smart? Crap, I missed that. Should I go back? I don't have anything fancy to wear."
"No one would notice, right?" I muttered, glaring down at my polished shoes, glancing at Harry, deflated. "This blows..."
"Hey, it might not be so bad. Maybe no one will notice." Harry said he wasn't even too sure of himself.
****
Everyone noticed.
Or at least that's all I seemed to pick up on. Sitting in the main hall, whispers bounced around me like I was a magnet for attention. Adjusting my tie, I whispered to Harry, "Is everyone talking about me again?"
"Just ignore it, Y/N. We'll be out of here soon, and we can celebrate properly. My dad booked the cinema for us, completely free."
"No way! Seriously? Can we watch whatever we want?"
