Night air, damp and cold, clinging to their clothes as they followed the ping on the tracker deeper into the Kamino Ward. Streetlights flickered like they were also trying to look away. No pedestrians. No traffic worth mentioning. Just the soft, steady beep of a device that promised answers and threatened consequences.
Bakugo walked in front, because of course he did, holding the tracker like it personally offended him.
"This thing's garbage," he muttered. "You're telling me some nobody villain can track Parker? Please."
Ida didn't rise to the bait. He kept his eyes forward, voice calculated. "It was used on Otto Octavius during the attack. If it leads to him, it likely leads to Parker."
Bakugo clicked his tongue. "Likely."
Ashido stayed close, jaw tight, hands flexing like she wanted to grab the air and shake it until it gave Y/N back. "Chui wouldn't send us on a fake trail," she said, more like she was reminding herself than convincing anyone else.
Midoriya held the receiver for a moment, checking the signal again, eyes wide with that awful mix of hope and dread. "It's stronger," he whispered. "We're close."
Ida adjusted his glasses, trying to look like a rulebook with a heartbeat. "Then we proceed with caution. We observe first, gather information, and avoid unnecessary engagement."
Bakugo looked up.
A building sat at the end of the block like it had been placed there by someone trying too hard to seem innocent. Worn down. Quiet. No obvious guards. No cameras that screamed criminal lair.
"It looks too simple," Bakugo said, and for once the suspicion in his voice sounded smart instead of arrogant.
Midoriya nodded once. "Agreed."
Ida lifted a hand. "We circle. We assess."
They moved along the side of the building, hugging the shadows. The tracker's beeping grew sharper, faster, like it was getting excited.
Midoriya crouched near a grimy window, wiping condensation away with his sleeve. "There," he breathed.
They leaned in.
And the world got colder.
Inside was a long room lit in a sickly purple glow. Tubes lined the walls like oversized test tubes, each one holding a shape. Some big. Some twisted. Some barely human.
Nomu.
Dozens of them, floating in stasis, asleep like nightmares waiting for permission.
Midoriya's throat worked like he was trying to swallow the word no and failing. "Oh my—"
Ida's posture stiffened. "This is... far beyond a simple kidnapping."
Even Bakugo went quiet, eyes narrowing, shoulders tensing like his body wanted to start fighting the room itself.
Then they saw movement near the center.
Otto.
He paced like he owned the place, hands moving, metal tools orbiting him in slow, obedient arcs. He looked... wrong. Not just angry. Not just stressed. Like something inside him had been rewired.
And there, tied up, was Peni.
Ashido's breath caught. Her eyes locked on Peni's restraints, the way Otto leaned in, the way tools drifted closer like hungry fish.
She turned, voice sharp and panicked. "We can't let him hurt her!"
Bakugo's mouth curled into something that wasn't a smile but definitely enjoyed what came next. His hands sparked, palms popping with restrained explosions.
