The gun went off.
For a split second, the sound was the whole world.
Then the bullet stopped.
Not slowed. Not redirected.
Stopped.
It hung in the air inches from my face like the universe had hit pause, a tiny piece of metal trapped in a halo of red hex that bled around it in lazy spirals, like smoke that forgot how to rise.
My breath came out shaky.
Felicia's eyes widened, just barely, just enough to prove she could be surprised.
I stared at that frozen bullet and felt something in me snap clean in two.
"I've had enough," I said, voice low. "Enough of people like you taking advantage of everyone. Enough of Fisk acting like this city is his personal buffet."
The red glow flickered, then tightened.
"Wilson Fisk wants to take everything," I continued, jaw clenched. "He's a parasite."
My eyes cut to her.
"And you're not better."
The black suit responded to my anger like it was fuel. It surged up my arms, across my chest, over my neck. Tendrils burst outward like a crown of shadows, curling and snapping, eager.
The bullet finally dropped, clinking into the fountain water behind me like it had given up on being dramatic.
Felicia recovered fast, rolling back to fire again, but I moved first.
"Get ready," I hissed as the suit sealed into its full shape, smooth and perfect and wrong in the way that felt right. "For a world of pain."
I webbed the gun.
Black webbing snapped out, wrapped the barrel and the grip, and I yanked so hard the weapon flew out of her hand like it was tired of her. Before it even hit the ground, a tendril whipped forward and crushed the barrel with a sickening crunch, metal folding like cheap foil.
I tossed the mangled thing aside.
Felicia's smile twitched, just a little.
I lunged and then faked away at the last second, darting up the side of the building and around the edge of the park. My mind was racing, fitting her quirks together like a puzzle that wanted to bite me.
Window travel.
Rocket boots.
Counter recoil.
The nine lives thing.
Now laser fingers.
"Okay," I muttered. "So you're basically a cheat code."
My Spider-Sense kept chiming, a warning bell that wouldn't shut up. I used it like a metronome, swinging wide, then tight, then wide again, making myself unpredictable. If she wanted to hit me, she'd have to commit.
I fired two webs past a lamppost, anchored them, and pulled myself back like a slingshot.
Now.
I launched.
The wind screamed past my ears. The suit tightened, ready to punch through reality if it had to.
A window popped open in midair.
Felicia stepped through directly in my path.
Of course she did.
I started a kick, and for a heartbeat it felt like my leg was moving through syrup. I barely tapped her, a love tap, nothing.
Her counter tried to bite back.
