"Have you heard about that vigilante running around? Wears a mask, takes down thugs like clockwork."

"I've seen him swinging on webs, just like a spider. Never seen anything like it."

"What's he hiding? Every other pro hero's in the public records. What makes this guy so special?"

"He saved my baby from a burning building. Whoever he is, I'll never forget it."

"Any man who can tie me up in that suit is already my type."

"There you have it, folks, the people of Tokyo have spoken. Opinions vary, but the question's the same: Who is this mysterious Spider vigilante? And where are they now? Coming up next, an interview with a key member of the Red Butchers who claims their leader may just be the god of a new world order."

The video paused.

I sat back, unwrapping a burrito and letting the steam hit my face before taking a bite. Lifting my mask just enough, I leaned against Musutafu Tower and let the morning breeze wash over me.

"Who is the Spider vigilante? Who is the Spider vigilante?" I mimicked the news anchor, recording into my voice memo. "Do you really want to know? The story isn't for the faint of heart... nah, that sounds corny." I groaned, stopping the recording. "Come on, Y/N... think of something clever. Uncle Ben used to say, if you could do good things for other people, you had a moral obligation to do those things... Nah, too wordy.

I drained the rest of my milkshake, licked my fingers, and muttered, "I'll figure it out later."

Checking my webbing cartridges, I tugged my mask back down and glanced at my phone. "Time for school."

I stepped back and free-fell, tossing my trash into my bag mid-drop before slinging a webline. The city blurred around me as I swung through Musutafu, flipping over a billboard and running along the side of a building. My phone buzzed in my palm.

"Aunt May? Really?" I muttered, thumbing through the text. Pick up eggs on the way home. Sure thing.

Another buzz. This one froze me. My UA acceptance letter.

Before I could open it, my spider-sense spiked.

I skidded down the glass of an office tower, rolling onto a lower rooftop and scanning the street. A robbery.

I sighed. "Yeah, I've got time."

One swing later, I was inside a corner store. A lone man had the clerk at gunpoint. Not your typical thug, late forties, overweight, rumpled suit. Looked more like an overworked salaryman than a criminal. His eyes darted toward me before he fired.

I vaulted over aisles, bullets tearing into cereal boxes as I rebounded from wall to wall. "Really? A tie and loafers? Ever heard of a ski mask?"

I kicked the gun from his hand. He snarled and, to my surprise, pulled a hunting knife.

"Okay, didn't see that coming."

He slashed wild. I flipped over him, webbed his arm to the wall, yanked his wrist back, then pinned the other arm for good measure. His legs followed, wrapped tight. Snatching the knife, I tapped him on the head with the hilt.

"The Rogue Salaryman! Robbing stores after 5 p.m., back to the office by 9. A true work-life balance villain."

The man's lips twisted into a grin. "Spider! At last we meet. I'll carve your face off and—"

I shot a web over his mouth. "Okay, anime villain. Save the monologue for the cops." Tossing the moneybag back to the owner, I asked, "You okay?"

She clutched it to her chest, trembling. "Thanks to you, Spider-Vigilante."
