It had been two weeks since I started at UA, and things had been... rocky. Between keeping one eye open for Bakugo, never sure when he'd come for his revenge, and the mountain of work I had to catch up on while juggling hero duties, I was already running on fumes.
But today was supposed to be different.
Today was for me.
Zipping up my coat, I made sure none of my costume was sticking out. I wiped at a small cut on my cheek and forced a smile in the elevator mirror. I even finger-gunned my reflection—then immediately stopped as the elevator dinged.
"Surprise! Happy birthday, Y/N!"
Harry stood there with a party popper, confetti already in my face before I could react. I laughed, brushing bits out of my hair as I stepped in, bumping fists with him. "Thanks, Harry. But seriously, you didn't need to go all out. We could've just done something small at my place."
"I don't want to hear it," Harry grinned, slapping a party hat onto my head before I could protest. "We're doing this right. Besides, what's the point of having a penthouse if I don't use it for my best friend's birthday? Did you get here okay?"
"Yeah, Aunt May dropped me off." My eyes wandered as I took in the massive open-plan suite. Floor-to-ceiling windows revealed half the city skyline, chandeliers glittered above, and the marble flooring was polished enough to see your reflection. "Still crazy every time I walk in here. I swear your bathroom is bigger than my entire apartment."
Harry chuckled, pouring himself a drink. "You should see my dad's place back in New York. Makes this look like a student dorm." He gestured me toward the dining room. "Come on—Peni and Otto are setting up."
The dining room was decorated with balloons, banners, and a giant "Happy 16th, Y/N!" strung across the wall. Peni waved with both arms, practically bouncing. "There he is! Happy birthday! Can't believe you're older than me now. Tragic."
"I'm only four months older, Peni," I smirked, waving to Otto. "Hey, Otto, how's it going?"
"Pretty good, thank you," Otto replied politely, adjusting his glasses. He eyed the penthouse around him with quiet awe. "Though I admit, I almost thought I had the wrong address. I knew your family was wealthy, Osborn, but this..." He trailed off, shaking his head.
Harry grinned, all too pleased. "Please, Otto. Just call me Harry." Then his eyes lit up, like he'd remembered something important. "Oh, right, surprise number two. I invited some old friends from middle school. Hope you don't mind."
I froze. "When you say old friends, you don't mean—"
Harry's smug grin said everything. He threw his arm around me. "Yep. Kirishima and Ashido. And I told them to bring whoever they wanted."
I dragged him aside, whispering harshly. "Harry, seriously? What happened to 'just a chill birthday'? Whatever, there's like a 0% chance they—"
Before I could finish, Bernard the butler appeared at the doorway. "Mr Osborn, your guests have arrived. Shall I send them in?"
"Of course, Bernard. Send them in!" Harry gloated, punching me lightly on the arm. "Never tell me the odds, buddy."
I groaned into my juice as the doors opened.
"Kaminari don't run!" A voice shouted out.
"Holy crap, this place is huge!" Kaminari yelled, spinning in circles as he wandered inside. "I could get lost in here, Midoriya, check this out!"
"This doesn't feel right," Midoriya mumbled nervously, sticking close to the door.
"Relax, Midoriya." Kirishima grinned, catching sight of me. "Y/N Parker! Yo!"
