Dinner hit the tables like a natural disaster. Bowls clinked, chopsticks snapped, people reached across each other like it was the last meal on Earth.
I stared down at my curry like it had personally attacked my entire bloodline.
I took one bite.
Instant regret.
My face pinched up. My eyes watered. My throat did that thing where it feels like it's trying to fold in on itself just to escape the situation.
"I hate spicy food," I muttered, voice rough like I'd just crawled out of a fire.
Ashido, sitting right next to me, ate hers like it was dessert. She looked way too happy about my suffering.
"That's not the curry's fault," she said with a grin. "That's just your taste buds being weak."
"My taste buds are traumatized," I mumbled, fanning my mouth with my hand. "This isn't 'mild.' This is 'call the fire department.'"
She laughed and bumped my shoulder with her elbow. "By the way, did Penelope apologize yet?"
I blinked. "How do you even know about that?"
"I overheard the Wild Wild Pussycats telling her she had to," Ashido said, sing-song, like she'd caught a juicy secret. "They were doing the whole lecture thing."
I snorted and stabbed at a potato chunk like it was a villain. "She isn't winning an Oscar for that performance."
"Maybe she just needs convincing," Ashido said, leaning forward like she was pitching an idea. "Like... someone to make her see heroes as the good guys."
Across from us, Uraraka perked up and swallowed her food. "And who better than the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man?"
Ashido slapped the table lightly, eyes bright. "Exactly! You won the hearts of the public, you can win the heart of one girl."
I slowly turned my head, deadpan. "One girl who hates heroes, hates me, tried to kill me... and whose dad got locked up by my uncle and died in prison?"
Uraraka's smile twitched, just a little.
Ashido didn't even flinch. "Yeah," she said, cheerful as ever. "Odds are stacked."
I huffed, pushing my curry a tiny bit farther away like it might jump at me. "I have zero interest in being some role model for a stuck-up brat."
"It's a thought," Ashido said, not pressing it, switching topics like she'd been waiting to deploy this one. "Anyway, the Pussycats said there's a mini-game tonight."
My eyes actually lit up a little. "Okay, that I can get behind."
Ashido leaned in, grinning. "Oh? You got ideas?"
"Oh, I've got ideas," I said, lowering my voice like I was about to confess a crime. "How do you feel about terrifying Class 1B?"
Uraraka laughed. "Y/N—"
"I'm serious," I insisted, pointing my chopsticks like a wand. I turned back to Ashido . "So. Have you ever seen this really old movie... Alien?"
Ashido's eyes widened with instant, gleeful understanding. "No way."
"Yes way."
She leaned closer. "Tell me everything."
I opened my mouth, already picturing duct tape, dramatic lighting, and at least one student screaming loud enough to summon a bear...
And then Aizawa appeared like a sleep-deprived ghost that had learned how to teleport purely out of spite.
