Rhaenya was in the throne room with her council waiting, she had asked one of her guards to bring Hizdahr to her. When he enters, the noble lord believing he would meet his demise, drops to his knees.
"My queen, please....."
"What about "Valar Morghulis"?" She asks him making the man sniffle and admit, "I did not want to die a coward. Apparently I do not want to die at all."
"It takes courage to admit fear. And to admit a mistake. I came here to tell you that rules for the fighting pits have been astablished, to free men only. Slavery will never return to Meereen, not while my aunt and i live."
"Yes, my queen."
"And in order to forge a lasting bond with the Meereenese people, I will marry the leader of an ancient family. Thankfully a suitor is already on his knees."
Both Hizdahr and the entire council look surprised. They knew their queen was mourning Gannicus, and it showed a great sense of duty, for her to marry a man who she did not love, they knew the only reason Rhaenya had not married Gannicus because there had been no political benefit to it and she should be available for political alliances. And for that they respected her.
The next morning the betrothal was announced and to Rhaenya's relief, the attacks of the Sons of the Harpy stopped. -------------------------------------------------------------- On the western side of Slaver's Bay, Tyrion Lannister and Jorah Mormont are still making their way to Meereen on foot, after losing their boat passing through the Smoking Sea and the ruins of Old Valyria and Jorah had been attacked by stone people and infected with Greyscale.
"So, why Rhaenya Targaryen? You served Daenerys why not put her on the throne?" Tyrion decided to question the Mormont man.
"For a short time Daenerys did want to go back and take the throne for herself, she did not know Rhaenya was alive. But when they met she knew her conquest would not lead to victory. Rhaenya, at the time already had larger dragons, an army and support of Dorne, not to mention she is the daughter of Rhaegar and Elia." Jorah says remembering how when he first met the queen he had been adamant of her, due to her quick insistance reminder of how Daenerys was not the rightful heir to the throne.
"That is a nice story but does not explain what makes her better than any other rulers , or why the rest of Westeros would even support her, given that her father kidnapped and raped Lyanna Stark and her grandfather was the Mad King." The Lannister dwarf tells Jorah trying to get a compelling argument from the man.
Jorah stopped walking and turned to Tyrion "have you ever met a king or queen, for that matter, that fights besides the army? Who walks among them? Knows all the names of the people who serve her?"
"Can't say i have." Tyrion admits.
"When we reached Meereen, the masters sent a champion to fight, a man twice my size who probably fought every day. Do you know who the queen's champion was?" Jorah asked him, but did not wait for an answer. "Herself, she picked up a sword and fought for her people. That is a queen i am willing to fight for and serve."
