ch. 44 || surprises

october 31st..

•Jalissa's POV•

My supervisor gave me the day off because she said I work too hard, so I got to spend the whole day with Logan, something I haven't done in a while.

"Mommy, Mommy."

I looked up from my computer and at Logan, who was sitting in front of me smiling & waving.

"Hi, baby." I chuckled. She went on about something in gibberish and then started laughing. I'm assuming whatever she thought she said was funny, so I laughed with her. "You're so cute, Logan."

She leaned over and kissed my forehead, then laughed and clapped her hands. I laughed again as my phone started ringing.

Logan gasped a little and started bouncing on the bed. "Daddy!"

I smiled at the fact that every time she heard "I Don't Get Tired," she knew Colin was calling.

"Hello?"

"Hey, baby. What are y'all doing?"

"We're just hangin' out right now, but I think Logan wants to talk to you."

Logan was staring at me while mumbling "daddy" and trying to grab the phone.

"Say 'hi Daddy,'" I said to her as I put the phone on speaker.

"Daddy! Daddy!"

"Hey, princess. Are you being good for your mommy?"

She smiled and nodded even though he couldn't see her. They held a conversation for about a minute & a half before he started talking to me again.

"Lis?"

"Yeah?"

"I might be a little late coming home today."

I frowned a little when I heard him say that. He's been coming home later than usual for the last couple of weeks, but he wouldn't tell me why. I tried not to assume the worst, but I couldn't help it. That's what I do — I worry too much.

"You promised to take the kids trick-or-treating. Will you be home by then?" I asked after a few seconds of silence.

"Of course."

"Okay.."

He sighed into the phone knowing I was upset. "Babe, I promise I'll be there."

"Alright."

We said our goodbyes, then I hung up the phone and set it down. I looked at Logan, who was too distracted by her toy to even realize I was looking at her.

I lied there long enough until my mind started to wander.

•Colin's POV•

When I got home, I was actually pretty hesitant to go inside. I knew Jalissa was upset about me coming home late, but I had to take care of a few things first.

I went in the house and luckily, Devon was already here.

"Where's Jalissa?" I asked, sitting on the couch.

"Upstairs with the kids," she replied.

"Does she suspect anything?"

She shook her head. "Not that I know of."
