Jalissa's POV

"I know this isn't what you expected to do today, but did you have fun?"

"I did, actually. Colin seems pretty nice," I smiled, "he wants to do something later."

Giovanna stopped smiling and turned to look at me, and she looked pretty serious.

"Do me a favor and stay away from Colin."

"Gi, why do you hate him so much?" I asked curiously.

"I don't hate Colin; I love him," she said, confusing me.

I raised my eyebrows, then furrowed them, clearly confused. "Then why don't you want me to hang out with him?"

"I'm just looking out for you, Lis. You're like the little sister I never had, and I don't want you to get hurt."

I nodded slightly like I understood, but I didn't. She still hasn't given me a legit reason as to why I shouldn't see Colin. It's not like I'm looking for a relationship with him.

I heard someone honk their horn outside, and I assumed it was Antonio, Gia's boyfriend.

"Sorry to leave you like this, but I'll be back," Gia said as she walked out of the apartment.

And just like that, I was left alone. There was nothing for me to do, and I didn't know anyone out here. I was just going to go to bed early until my phone buzzed.

From: Colin Kaepernick
Are you busy?

me: Nope.

From: Colin Kaepernick
Would you like to go out with me tonight?

me: I would love to.

I put my phone down on the table, then went to go change. I put on khaki shorts, a black shirt and all black converse. I sat on the couch for about ten minutes before someone was knocking on Gia's door. I looked through the peephole to see Colin, looking perfect. I stepped back, let my hair down and ran my fingers through it before opening the door.

"Hey."

"Hi."

"You ready to go?"

"Yeah."

I grabbed the spare key off the table and locked the door on my way out. When we got to his car, he opened the door for me, which I really wasn't expecting.

Such a gentleman.

"So, what are we doing?" I asked hesitantly.

"Well on the weekends, they play old movies at the park. I figured for our first date we could do something simple," he said.

I started smiling like a little idiot, and I tried so hard to hide it. "This is a date?"

"Y-Yeah, but only if you want it to be," he said, looking at me for a brief second before looking back at the road.

"Then I guess it's a date."

He smiled a little, while focusing his attention on driving.

When we got to the park, Colin opened my door for me and then went to his trunk, where he pulled out a blanket and a picnic basket. He tucked the blanket under his arm and carried the basket in his left hand, using his free hand to hold mine. He laid the blanket out on the ground, and we sat down.

"I didn't know you were such a romantic person," I said.

He dropped his head and chuckled. "I had my sister help me out a little."

"That is so sweet."

He chuckled again and pulled me into him as we watched the movie. It's weird how comfortable I am with him considering we just met today.

Colin's POV

I was having a really good time with Jalissa. Even though she's seemingly shy, she's fun to be around — unlike the girls I'm used to.

When we got back to the car, she got a call and I assumed it was Giovanna because my name was brought up, and it made Jalissa roll her eyes. When she was finished, she just let her phone fall on the floor without saying anything.

"Are you okay?"

"Did you & my cousin ever hook up?" she asked randomly.

"No, why?"

"Because she's just so against me hanging out with you, and I just wanna know why."

She was clearly frustrated, which was actually kinda cute.

"She just wants to make sure you don't get hurt, and I understand that. She probably thinks I'm being nice to you just so I can sleep with you."

"Are you?"

"Huh?"

"Are you only being nice so you can sleep with me?" she asked, looking out of the window.

"No, not at all."

She nodded. "Well, she wants me to come back now."

"Okay."

The drive back to Giovanna's apartment was silent, mainly because Jalissa was still upset. I pulled up in front of the building, and we sat in the car for a while.

"I'm sorry we had to cut the night short," she said.

"It's fine. I still had fun with you," I said, putting my hand over hers.

"I had fun with you too," she smiled.

"Maybe we can do it again tomorrow."

"I'd like that."

I, slowly, leaned in to kiss her but before our lips could touch, the passenger door opened. Giovanna dragged Jalissa out of the car, and I got out so I could see what was going on.

"Antonio, take her upstairs," Giovanna said.

Antonio grabbed Jalissa's arm and took her upstairs. She looked back at me and had a very apologetic look in her eyes.

"What the hell, Gi—"

"Stay away from my cousin, Colin," she said before disappearing into the building.

I get that she wants to protect her cousin and all, but I think that was a little excessive.
