ch. 41 || jasmine

•Jalissa's POV•

Sitting on the couch with Logan in my lap, I look at my sister & best friend, who was still smiling, then I look at Colin, who was trying not to laugh.

"What are y'all doing out here?" I finally asked. "And what'd y'all do?"

"We stopped by to see Chrystal & Corrine," Stephanie grinned.

I turned to glare at Colin, and he was smiling at me nervously. It was so obvious he was the mastermind behind this little plan.

"You called her, didn't you?" I asked.

"Yes, and I don't regret it. I know you're probably mad, but I also know you can't stay mad at me I love you, Lis," he said all in one breath, finishing with a big, cheeky smile.

I started laughing at him then kissed his lips. "I'm not mad at you. I'm glad I have people in my life that care about me like y'all."

I really wanted to address the giant elephant in the room, also known as Jasmine. I seemed to be the only one curious about why she was here.

"Jalissa, can I talk to you alone for a minute?" Jasmine asked, looking straight at me.

"Uhh —"

"We'll leave you two alone," Colin said, taking Logan and leaving the living room.

As Stephanie got up, I grabbed her arm and pulled her back on the couch.

"Don't leave me alone with her, Steph."

She laughed and stood up again. "Just listen to what she has to say, Lis. It'll shock you."

I must have been in a damn alternate universe because there was no way in hell they just left me alone Jasmine. I must be dreaming.

"What are you doing here?" I asked her, fidgeting with my fingers.

I never talked to Jasmine. I just talk in her direction. I haven't directly talked to her since the last time she tried to kill me, which was five years ago.

"I heard there were some people giving you a hard time out here," she said genuinely.

"You came out here to fight someone...for me?" I asked, a little shocked. "Why would you do that? You hate me."

She sighed. "I wish everyone would stop saying that. I don't hate you, Jalissa. You're my baby sister. I love you."

Did my sister just say she loves me? Now I know I'm dreaming.

"You say you 'love' me, but the first sixteen years of my life you tried to kill me. Now if that's what you call love, you can keep it."

"I know, and I'm sorry for all that. The truth is, I did all that because I was jealous..."

"Wh—"

"I was jealous because before you were born, Daddy & I were so close. But after you were born, it's like you became his favorite, and it made me so mad that I wanted you out of the way. I'm so sorry, Jalissa. I understand if you don't wanna accept my apology because I know I wouldn't, but I had to tell you."

This was a side of Jasmine I'd never seen before, and I wasn't sure if I believed her.

"But why now? Why all of a sudden are you being so nice to me and apologizing?" I asked skeptically. "What do you want? Money? You tryna sleep with Colin?" I gasped. "Are you dying?"

She laughed and shook her head. "No." She showed me her left hand, and there was a big ass diamond ring sitting on her ring finger. "I'm engaged."

I kept my head down and furrowed my eyebrows. Who the hell proposed to her crazy ass? And do they know she's crazy.

"I know what you're thinking," she said. "'Who the hell would propose to her crazy ass?' Well, his name is Jonathan, and he's made me a better person," she said. She had the biggest smile on her face, something I'd never seen from her.

"Congratulations."

"Thank you. I was wondering if you'd be my maid of honor, but I understand if you don't want to. I at least would like to see you, Colin & Logan there."

This Jonathan guy must be some kinda freakin' miracle worker because this was not my sister.

"I'd love to." She squealed and opened her arms to hug me. "Ya know last time you tried to 'hug' me, you put me in a chokehold," I said, smiling nervously.

"I'm not gonna do that."

I hesitantly stretched my arms out to give her a hug and she actually hugged me.

I knew I couldn't 100% trust Jasmine just yet but if she really had changed, I could try, right?
