ch. 6 || oh great

a few months later... || November 3rd

•Jalissa's POV•

Colin & I have been getting pretty close lately. When I went to go see him last month, we celebrated his birthday early since I couldn't be with him today.

When I got out of class, I decided to text him to tell him happy birthday.

me: happy birthday hon! i hope you have a great day because you deserve it. 😘

I put my phone in the cup holder and drove to work. When I pulled up to the building, Colin texted me back.

Thank you baby girl. It would be so much better if you were here with me.

He says the cutest things.

me: you're so cute.

I try :) what are you doing?

me: about to walk into work.

Well you should go before you're late. Call me when you get off.

me: I will.

I'll talk to you later, babe.

me: okay.

It amazes me how he brings a smile to my face even through text messages.

I got my bag out of the backseat and went inside. As soon as I clocked in, I put my bag in the break room, but then went to the bathroom because I had to throw up.

That was random...

I rinsed my mouth out and went back in the break room to get a piece of gum.

"Jalissa, I need you in room 18," my supervisor, Deb, said.

"Okay, I'll be right there."

On my way to the room, I took a detour to the bathroom because I had to throw up again.

"What is going on with me?" I questioned out loud.

I rinsed my mouth again, got another piece of gum, then went to the front desk before tending to my patient.

It was time for my lunch break, so I went to this little place across the street with my best friend, Stephanie.

"You never told me about your trip to San Francisco the second time," she said, "what was that about?"

"I have a friend out there, and he wanted me to come hang out with him for a week," I said.

"Him?" she smirked, "are you dating someone, Lis?"

"No, we're just friends."

"Mhm, sure."

The waiter came out with our food, and whatever Stephanie ordered made me sick. I got up and rushed to the bathroom where, once again, I threw up. I've thrown up so much today, I'm tired.

I rinsed my mouth for the fifth time today, then looked at myself in the mirror.

I'm gaining weight...

I went back to the table and Stephanie looked at me like I was crazy.

"What?"

"Are you okay?" she asked with a worried look plastered on her face.

"I don't know. I've been throwing up all day."

"Are you sick?"

"I don't feel sick," I said, holding my stomach.

She started eating and when she noticed I wasn't, she looked at me skeptically.

"You're not gonna eat?"

"Steph, I think I need to go on a diet," I said, "I'm getting fat."

"Shut up, Jalissa. You're fucking perfect," she scoffed.

"Then why does my uniform feel so tight?" I asked rhetorically.

"Maybe you're pregnant," she joked, making me laugh.

"Yeah right. You know I'm a v—"

I somehow managed to completely forget that I'm no longer a virgin. Then I thought about what Colin & I did a couple months ago.

"Jay, I was just kidding. I know you're a virgin."

I looked up at her while biting my lip nervously.

"Wait. You are still a virgin, right?"

I slowly shook my head.

"You lost your virginity and you didn't tell me?!" she asked in a loud whisper. "Did y'all use a condom?"

"Yeah, but it broke," I said, "what am I gonna do?"

"Okay, calm down. We're gonna go to the store and get a pregnancy test, so don't panic."

We paid for the food we barely ate and left to go to Walgreens.

Steph & I were sitting around in the bathroom, waiting for the timer on my phone to go off. It finally did, and it felt like the longest fifteen minutes of my life.

I slowly picked up the stick, and my heart stopped when I saw the result.

Two lines. I'm...pregnant.

"Sooo?"

"It's positive," I said with tears forming in my eyes.

Stephanie walked over to me, looked at it and put her arm around me.

"Maybe it's a false positive," she said trying to cheer me up.

"But what if it's not?" I cried.

She hugged me and tried her best to calm me down.

Happy birthday Colin. You're gonna be a dad...
