Giselle
"Mavi, come here."
I took a clean towel to wipe Mavi's face. Basang-basa ang mukha niya dahil kakaiyak. Oliver put her down so she could come to me. We sat on the sofa and wiped the towel gently to her face. We went inside the house after Mavi and his father talked outside. They're both calm now. While I was wiping my daughter's face, she was just staring at her Dad. Napatingin na rin tuloy ako kay Oliver and I saw him also staring at his daughter.
I laughed at the two. They're both staring at each other na parang kinakabisado nila ang isa't-isa. Binilisan ko na ang pagpupunas kay Mavi dahil mukhang gusto niya nang lumapit sa daddy niya. I also quickly fixed her hair before tapping her back, gesturing her that she could go back to Oliver. She walked to Oliver, putting her hands up. Her dad immediately carried her. She hugged him on the neck, leaning her head on his shoulder.
"I'll just go get us some water," I told Oliver. He just gave me a nod. I went to the kitchen and saw Manang Rowena there with Lucy. I looked away from them because they might noticed that I cried. The two were quiet but Lucy was so obvious that she wants to say something. Napailing nalang ako at hindi na nag-salita.
I walked back to the living room with the three glasses of water. But Mavi was already sleeping while she was being carried by Oliver. He was caressing her hair. I put the glasses on the coffee table and sat beside them. I looked at Mavi to make sure she was really asleep.
"Nakatulog bigla," Oliver said. He took the glass of water carefully, worried that he might wake his daughter up.
"She woke up so early so..." I said. "Hindi ka ba nangangalay? I can carry her."
"No, It's fine," he shook his head and even hugged Mavi tighter as if I will steal her from him. I chuckled and just let him. Mukhang ayaw rin naman bumitaw ng anak niya sa kanya.
"We should go upstairs, put her on the bed so she'd feel comfortable." I suggested which he agreed. He followed me, his daughter's still in his arms. I turned the aircon on when I got inside. Oliver went straight to the bed and slowly put Mavi there. He also covered her half body with the comforter.
After I turned on the aircon, I lied down beside my daughter. Oliver just sat on the couch, looking at us. I felt awkward with his stares so I get up from lying down and just sat on the bed.
"Don't you have work?" I asked so we could just talk about something. We would look stupid if we just stare at each other. I looked at the time on my phone. It was still morning, hindi ba siya male-late sa trabaho niya?
"Mamaya pa ang pasok ko. Nagpa-half day ako." He told me which made me nod. He really skipped his work to see his daughter. "Do you have baby pictures of her? Gusto kong makita."
"Yeah, sure," I said and stood up from the bed. I walked towards the small drawer and took the photo album out there. I sat back to the bed and handed him the album.
Oliver excitedly opened the photo album. He was even smiling a little like a kid. But it faded when he opened it on the very first page. There were pictures of me after giving birth to Mavi. Also pictures of Mavi, crying in my arms. It was one of the most beautiful moments in my life.
He turned to the next page and smiled bitterly when he saw the picture of me, smiling while holding Mavi. I was still at the hospital that time. He took it to have a closer look.
