"I'm home."

Shawn stood up from the couch to welcome me. Maingat siyang tumayo dahil buhat niya si Mavi, who was sleeping peacefully in his arms. He was scared to wake my daughter up so he was really being careful.

"You're late," he said. "Mavi couldn't wait for you and fell asleep."

"Sorry, I ran some errands for Piper," I apologized. That was our deal when I jus dragged her to the site last time. I have to do something for her in exchange. Hindi pa enough sa kanya na ako ang nagbayad ng gas niya.

I just took off my shoes before walking towards my cousin to get Mavi. While I was getting her from him, her grip suddenly tightened so I had to whisper to her that it's me. She automatically wrapped her arms around my neck, eyes still close.

"Thanks for taking care of her," I told Shawn. He shook his head, lowkey saying it's nothing. "You should rest in your room, too."

He just nodded, getting his laptop on the coffee table. I think he was working while making Mavi sleep. I went upstairs first to put my daughter on the bed. I thought Shawn already went to his room but I saw him following me from behind.

"What?" I asked when I notice he wants to say something. I was fixing Mavi on the bed but I'm still listening to whatever he'll tell me.

"Mavi kept mentioning her father earlier," he said that made me stop. "She won't stop talking about him. What did you tell her?"

I didn't answer him for a minute. I put a blanket on Mavi first before facing my cousin. I sighed, sitting at the edge of our bed.

"I promised her that I will introduce her to Oliver, remember?" I reminded him.

"Yeah, and do you have any plans on doing that?" He asked again. "Are you really gonna do that?"

"I was already planning it, okay? I was just waiting for the right timing. I wanted to take it slow first so I wouldn't shock Oliver." My voice was calm but my tone wasn't. Ayokong magising si Mavi at marinig lahat ng 'to.

"Everything will be harder for you when you do it slow," Shawn told me that in my face. "It will cause more pain to the both of them. I saw how excited Mavi was when she told me she's going to meet her father soon. I don't want her to get hurt."

"Me too, Shawn. Trust me, I don't want her to experience any pain. That's why there's a hesitation in me. I am scared Oliver will not accept our daughter," I said.

I already stop caring.

I suddenly remembered what he said in the car the last time we saw each other. He stopped. He does not care at me anymore. I am afraid that he will tell the same thing to Mavi. Hindi ako papayag na marinig 'yon ng anak ko. Masasaktan siya kapag nangyari 'yon...

I couldn't imagine how painful could it be for my daughter. Ang tagal niyang hinintay si Oliver pero ayun lang ang maririnig niya kung sakali? No, I won't let that happen. I'm going to protect Mavi no matter what. Even if it means that I can't let her meet Oliver.

Napaisip ako ng malalim nang pumasok 'yon sa isip ko. Could I really break my promise to my daughter? I mean, I'll do it for her but... it's gonna still hurt her for sure.

Everything frustrated me. It felt like someone will still get hurt if I choose one. Wala kaming iwas. It was so uncertain if the pain will be worth it for all of us.
