Liam recovered well following his brush with death. He and Alex were at the compound constantly unless something came up and one of them had to leave.
I was nearing my 34th week with my twins and things couldn't be better. We had a gun in the house. Liam and Alex took turns sleeping with me in the master bedroom because there wasn't room with my huge belly in the way.
I was asleep in bed while Alex and Liam were at a meeting with the Captain. I heard the door open downstairs and footsteps. I tucked the gun under my pillow and pretended to sleep. Alex and Liam would show up together. There was only one person in my house other than me.
The bedroom door opened and I put my hand on the trigger. I sat up and pointed the gun at my intruder.
----Liam
"Great. We will join you for breakfast in the morning. Melinda will be excited to spend time with Laney." I said as we walked out of the main building of the compound." I heard a gunshot. Alex and I ran across the grounds of the compound. The captain following us.
We got to the house and saw the door was open. "Melinda!" I yelled. I could hear her muffled cries upstairs. We ran upstairs and into the bedroom. Ben. He was on the floor holding his arm. I grabbed him and shoved him into the wall. Alex was pissed. "Find Melinda." I said. "Now." I said.
----Melinda
I held the gun steady pointing it at the door, sobs shook through me as I awaited my uncertain fate. The door opened and I pulled the trigger again. A hand grabbed mine and I shot the ceiling.
"ALEX!" I sobbed. He took the gun from me and set it on the floor. He hugged me. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry." I repeated.
"Shh..." He said. "I'm fine." He said. He helped me to my feet and hugged me tight. I jumped hearing another gun shot. Alex kept me from looking, but I heard thumping down the stairs. Someone killed Ben.
I heard water hit the floor, Alex stepped back and cursed. I looked and saw blood. Then the pain hit me like a train and I felt my knees give. Alex caught me and scooped me up. "Liam!" Liam ran in and saw the blood.
"Fuck!" He said. I lost consciousness.
----Alex
By the time we got her to doc Liam and I were both covered in blood. I set Melinda on the operating table, doc and the surgeon pushed us out of the way.
"Doc." I said. He didn't respond. "Doc." I said again. Nothing. "Matt!" He turned around.
"Outside." He said.
"Matt." I said.
"I will update you as soon as I can. Get Larissa in here. She's a nurse. Please. Go outside and wait."
Larissa went in. I was pacing with my hands at the back of my head. Liam was leaning against the wall. The captain walked over. "He's in holding. He's not dead yet." He said. I walked toward the old jail.
"Al." Liam said.
"Let's make this quick." I said. He nodded and we went down to the holding cell. Ben saw me and Liam. I unlocked the gate and the captain let us do what Ben deserved.
I stood at the water bucket by the doctor's office after rinsing off Melinda's blood. Liam was sitting on the steps. I heard a baby cry and Liam stood up. I heard a second cry and felt more relief, but I needed to know if Melinda was okay.
Another hour passed and the doctor came out with the surgeon. They took their masks down and their gloves off before sitting on the ground.
