The Past

----Melinda

After dinner, I was sitting in bed, I could hear Liam and Alex talking.  They thought I was asleep.  "The new kid, Trevor or what the fuck his name is, locked me in a store room after we finished clearing a building.  Judging by everyone reaction when I showed up they thought I was dead."  Liam said.  "I'm assuming that's what he told everyone."

"You're too stubborn to just get yourself killed."  Alex said.

I heard movement in the bedroom.  "She's asleep."  Liam said.

About ten minutes later, I heard Rachel start crying.  I went into the kids room and saw that Melinda wasn't in bed.  The window was open.  "Liam."  He came in.  "Mel's gone."  I said.  I put Rachel back in her crib.

We left the house and I saw Carly running over.  "Where is she?"  I asked.

"Middle of town."  She said.

"Please watch the kids."  I said and she went inside.

Liam followed me to the center of town.    "What?  You think just because you screw two guys that you can handle me.  You coming over here calling me a liar, I see the way you look at me."

"Trevor don't do it."  Kevin said.  Trevor saw me and Liam.  He let Melinda go and she hit the ground.

"She came on to me."  Trevor said.

"She called him a liar for saying Liam got killed.  She didn't say or do anything else.  He grabbed her.  I tried..."  I held out my hand, stopping him.

"I'll take it from here."  I said.

"Yes sir."  Kevin ran off.

Liam scooped Melinda up, he nodded at me and took her to see doc.  I grabbed Trevor and shoved him into the wall.  My hand at his neck.  "You're new here.  You see, women are key to our community.  They take care of the community while we're gone.  They make sure we are taken care of."

"Let me go."  He said.

"If I ever catch you with your hands on my wife again, I won't hesitate to kill you."  I said through my teeth.

"You can't hurt me.  That's a rule around here."  He said.

"Watch me."  I shoved him to the ground before walking to the infirmary.

"Well, it's not broken."  Doc was saying when I walked in.  "Bad sprain."  He said wrapping Melinda's hand.

"He's still alive."  I said.

"Good.  I can pay him a visit as well."  Liam said.

"Mel."  Doc said.  "Tell them.  They can tell the captain and handle it properly."

"Tell us what?"  Liam asked.

"Trevor shoved me into the wall at the infirmary last week.  I never believed you were dead, but he wanted to push it.  I stabbed Trevor in the leg to get him off me."  Mel said.

"All the more reason to kill him."  Liam said.  "We can talk to the captain in the morning."

"Anything else?"  I asked.

"No."  Melinda said.

"Doc, she's pregnant."  Liam said.

"Any signs of cramping or other distress come see me."  Doc said and Melinda nodded.

Liam scooped me up and carried me home.  Larissa left and Liam set me on the bed.  "Mels."  He said his arms crossed.

"I didn't do anything wrong."  I said.

"You shouldn't have went to confront him."  Alex said.

"You also should have told Alex about last week."

"So he could leave too?"  I asked getting up and locking myself in the bathroom.
