Teaching part three

Melinda was asleep, her hand in mine between us, I moved carefully and slipped free.  I tugged on a pair of jeans and went downstairs after checking on the babies.  I found Liam on the porch.  "Everything good?"  I asked.

"Yeah.  How's Mel?"  He asked.

"Doc stitched her up.  I had to give her the sedative.  She wouldn't calm down.  She thought I'd take off again."  I said.

"Are you?"  He asked.

"No."  I leaned against the rail of the steps.

"Good.  You guys break the bed?"  He asked with a laugh.

"Pretty fucking close."  I said with a chuckle.

"Man, I'll wrap it for as long as she wants, but I miss that feeling."  He said.

"Me too, but she's the boss."  I said.  He nodded.

"Damn straight."  He said.  "The babies asleep?"

"Yeah.  They sleep like Mel.  A train could go by and nothing can wake them."  I said.  He nodded.

I turned when I heard the door open.  "Hey, what are you doing out of bed?"  I asked.

"Just making sure you two are still here."  She said.

"We're here."  Liam said.

Morning came and I woke up with a gasp.  I sat up and felt the sting in my leg.  Alex came in with some food.  "Hey, good morning, are you alright?"  He asked.

"T-Those guys..."  I said.  He sat down beside me.  "They've been here."  I said.

"What?"  He said.

"They know the compound Alex."  I said.  I got up stumbling slightly into the dresser.  Alex got beside me. 

"What do you mean?"  He asked.  I pulled on a pair of shorts.  "Mel."  I looked out the window.

"They're here."  I said.  He looked.  Larissa stayed with the babies and I went with Alex and Liam.  I stayed close to Alex.  They were both protective, but in the aspects of fight, Liam was more aggressive and had more strength.

The one with the beard saw me.  "Fuck."  He said.

"So, you're group of asswipes attacked the women of our group."  Liam said.

"We didn't know."  The guy said.

"Bullshit."  Liam said, my arm at Alex's waist, I took Liam's hand with my other hand.  He glanced at me.

"You live in my other community.  Harming members of any of my groups will not be tolerated."  The captain said.  "What supplies do you have for us today?"  He said.

"We need to trade."  The guy said.

"The fuck you do.  You give the supplies.  We will conduct a trade on Friday."

"What?"  He said.

"In exchange for me not killing you, you give my stuff.  We will trade on Friday."

"You bitch."  The guy lunged at me, Alex pulled his gun and the guy stopped since it was now inches from his face.

"I'll fucking kill you if you touched her."  Alex said.  The guy walked off and Alex put his gun away.

Liam was up on the wall and Alex was taking inventory of our new supplies.  I climbed up the ladder and Liam looked down and saw me.  He held out his hand, I took it and he helped me up the rest of the way.  "Hey, what are you doing?"  He asked.

"Riley and Rachel are asleep.  Carly's watching them.  I've done everything I needed to get done, now I'm bored."  I said.

"Not much excitement here."  He said kissing my neck before leaning against the concrete barrier.

"What?  What's wrong?"  I asked.

"Nothing."  He said.

"Liam."  I said.

"Sharing really isn't something I'm good at."  He said.

"Liam, don't do this again."  I said.

"You love me, but you and Alex have a better connection."

"You're breaking this off aren't you?"  I asked.

"It's better for you and Alex.  I'm just in the way."  He said.

"You just want to be free to fuck whoever you want.  What?  You have to fill Ben's spot?"

"No."  He said.  "I'm tired of being your second choice.  It's always Alex, you rarely want just me."  He said.  "I love you, but I don't want this relationship anymore."

That night, I was on a run with Nick, Carly, Larissa, and Cam.  "You're extremely quiet."  Nick asked.  "I'm surprised Alex and Liam let you come along."

"They don't know I'm here."  I said quietly.

"What?"  Cam said.

"Liam ended things with her this afternoon."  Larissa said.  "Just leave her alone."
