There was no way that Mabel had gotten that far. It had to be a hidden entrance in the way she ran but Mabel was nowhere to be found. Could it be that she was just that power that she could disappear in thin air? If so, she was more dangerous than Theodore thought which meant she needed him to protect her.
If word got out that a witch that powerful lived within their kingdom the townsfolks would go crazy. Calling for her head or to be burned at the stake. Theodore wasn't going to allow it and that left only one thing to do.
Finally, he made it to the spring still Mabel wasn't anywhere in sight. "Where could she be?" He asked himself venturing over the spring as a tickling feeling hit him and Beauty stopped as if she was frozen in place. "A magical barrier! Why did it not affect me?" He said walking the rest of the way until he came upon a small shack deep in the woods.
Slowly Theodore made his way to the door pushing it open slightly as he scan the room before stepping in fully. Skeletons of all types of animals were hanging from the wall some that he couldn't make out but for some reason, it did not frighten him as he continued to look around. It seemed that there was no one home at first until he heard crying coming from a small room that only be a bed chamber.
"Mabel...."
"STAY BACK!" She yelled curled up in the corner of the small bed as she hid her face. Theodore stepped back not wanting to upset her and not knowing what she would do. So, he let Mabel cry it out for a few minutes before stepping forward again.
"Mabel, it is I, Prince Theodore." He spoke touching the woman's silky black hair as she let out a sob. "What happened? Why were you at the brothel?" Theodore asked. He knew she did not work there because Theodore spent most of his time there but it was not just for the whores. It was because they had good ale.
"Does it matter? They are going to come and behead me or burn me at the stake now." She sniffed making Theodore take a deep breath sitting on the edge of the small, feathered bed. "I should have not listened to her, but she is my big sister. I messed up. I fucking messed up...."
"Ladies shouldn't use that type of vulgar language." He chuckled trying to lighten the mood, but it did not work. "How did thee mess up?"
"I followed her to the brothel because she told me that she would show me the town at night. I did not know... I did not know that my dear sister owns the brothel...."
"Madam Ruth is thy sister?" Theodore asked slowly Mabel nodded. That could not be that woman was old enough to be his mother or grandmother. Well, that's how she looked. How did she have a little sister as young as Mabel?
"Madam Ruth is not Her Majesty's age...."
"No, that is a spell that Ruth like for you all to see. I don't see her the way you would, but Ruth is only fifteen summers older than I. Ruth raised me after our Mother was burned, I was just a baby. From what she has told me, our Mother gave her me and told her to run." Mabel said making Theodore nod.
"Mabel why will the townsfolks be searching for you?"
"Lord Edward Jones, he ordered me on my knees. I have never done anything of the sort... I never gave myself to anyone, but you Sire. I am still not sure why I did that... I was in a whore house therefore I was one of them. I am ashamed of myself." She said wiping a tear. "I let him have his way with me, but the Lord was too rough, and I used my magic."
"Will thy magical barrier hold up against them?" Theodore asked as she looked up. Mabel had forgotten all about the barrier and didn't think to ask Prince Theodore how did he get past it. Only witches could pass and they had to have a white orb. Ruth was only allowed because she knew her way around it.
