"Well i'm disappointed, i thought you'd show up half naked". Ellen heard a voice saying in a distance knowing only one person that would greet her like that. She turned around to meet Patricks gaze and answered him with the big smile on her face. "Well i thought maybe you had enough images of me half naked in your dreams last night Patty" as she greeted him with a hug. The hug was a little too long and she knew that neither of them really wanted to let go of the closeness.
They had met at their usual spot, a hiking trail in the woods outside of the city. Not many people came here and the ones that did were often running with music in their ears so no one ever really noticed them. It was the perfect spot to just be Ellie and Patty, not Ellen Pompeo, star of Grey's and Patrick Dempsey the dreamy actor. No one bothered them here and Ellen didn't want to be disturbed when she looked into Pattys eyes. So because of this she had left her phone in her car.

Patrick was laughing the whole time they were walking. He didn't know how he had survived these years without her. She just knew him inside and out. Even when he knew he was being annoying, she just gave him crap back instead of arguing. She really was like no other woman he'd ever known. "You want to sit down a bit?" He asked Ellie after they had been walking and talking for about an hour. He knew they both had to get back to their lives soon but he needed to do something he hadn't done in forever before they went their different ways. He knew what he was about to do was risky for their friendship but he could not talk himself out of this. "Yeah sure, lets sit over by that big tree" Ellen answered him and they walked over to sit down. It was a massive old tree with a root bigger than both of them together and the spot was just beautiful. Ellen thought to herself 'this is what peace feels like, being in this place with this man i've known for sixteen years.' "I need to say something and i don't want you to interrupt me, okay?" Patrick suddenly spoke and Ellen got a little nervous. 'Please don't ruin this' she thought but continued to agree to what he just said.
"I know we have an understanding Ellie, i know we don't talk about the past or what we've done or how we feel. I need you in my life and i know that if i'm going to have you in it it needs to be as best friends. But talking to you like this again just really makes me want you more. Timing has never been on our side and it probably isn't now either. I mean i leave in two weeks and won't be back for months. So what i'm trying to say is that what i'm about to do and say, i need it not to effect our friendship because i can't lose you again. So if you don't agree with this then we can just pretent it never happened. Deal?" Ellen was more confused than ever over his rambling and didn't understand what he was saying but she knew she couldn't lose him either so she just said "Deal". As soon as the words came out of her mouth Patricks lips met hers in a passionate kiss. Patrick knew this was wrong but he needed to kiss her so damn much. He felt Ellen answer the kiss and he knew it wasn't just him that needed this. The kiss was not sexual but sensual, it was an action of love and they both got lost in it. Eventually Ellen pulled back, she looked a little flushed and said "Wow". Patrick just smiled and brushed his nose against hers. He thought this was it, they did what they needed to express their untold love and they could go back to reality in peace. But suddenly he felt Ellie kiss him again. This time the kiss was diffrent, it felt hot and their tounges met instantly. Ellen climed on top of Patrick and as they continued the make out session Ellen felt Patricks dick get hard. And she would be lying to herself if she wasn't hot as hell for him right now. Patrick broke the kiss this time though "Ellen... we can't, not here, not now" he said and she knew he was right. She wanted to fell every inch of him but they couldn't cross that line now. They had done enough.
Ellen climbed off him and laid her head on his shoulder. Patrick embraced her and held her against his chest. They didn't speak about what just happened. Both of them knew it was to hard to talk about. So they laid there in silence, relaxing and breathing each other in. 'The moment was perfect'

*flashback to 2006*
Patrick sat in his trailer reminiscing about the scene they had just shot, filming the exam room scene had been really intense and for a moment he had wanted Ellen. It wasn't just Derek wanting Meredith but him, Patrick, wanting Ellen. And this really scared him. Sure she was his best friend and he loved her but he couldn't love her that way. He had tonight though...
They had made plans to hang out tonight because tomorrow was the last day of shooting before summer and now he wondered if he should tell her about his feelings. He knew she might not feel the same and that it could risk their friendship but the way he felt for Ellen tonight he hadn't felt for Jill for a long time. He loved his wife but he didn't desire her the way he did Ellie.
"Why do you look so depressed Patty, was I that bad at kissing" he suddenly heard Ellens voice say. He looked up and saw her standing in his trailer with a mischievous grin on her face. He couldn't help but smile back at her immediatly. "Quite the opposite baby" he said with a wink but at the same time being completly serious. "Baby?" Ellen said with a questioning look. Patrick just smiled and took in her whole body. She wasn't just sexy but so damn beautiful, he had never seen a woman radiate so much femininity before. "I just thought the name was appropriate after that performance" he said flirtatiously.
Ellen was a little confused by his behavior ever since they shot the last scene. At first he had the weirdest look on his face when the director yelled cut. Then he barely said a word as he went out of the set and now he was flirting? He usually did flirt, specially with her but this time it felt serious. 'Was he hitting on her for real?'
"What are you rambling about Patty?" Ellen told him with a little bit of worry in her voice. Patrick could tell she was uncertain of what he was doing and to be honest so was he but he just couldn't help but to be honest right now so he flat out told her without overthinking "Ellen, you are so gorgeous that i really got aroused by your moans before and i don't know how to process what i'm feeling". Ellen had a pure look of shock on her face and didn't say a word as she slowly made her way to the couch where he was sitting. Patrick didn't know what he was expecting in her reaction but what she said next really shooked him. "I know how you feel Patrick, sometimes it doesn't feel like acting when i'm with you. Everything is always just right with you." Ellen looked deeply into his eyes and he felt his soul melt when he heard that she felt the same as him. "But we can't really act on it. You have a wife and a daughter and i have Chris. Maybe it's just that we are such close friends?" She then said breaking his happy thoughts and on some level he knew she was right but it also felt like she was trying to explain away their feelings. "Ellen i know it's complicated but i have real feelings for you, i don't always know what they are but i know they are real and i would like to discuss what we could make of this" Patrick said as he put his hand on top of hers.
Ellen knew he was serious now, but so was she. This was complicated and she really didn't know what to say. But she really wanted to try kissing him off screen and see how it felt. "How about this, we spend tonight like always, as friends and enjoy our moment and tomorrow after we wrap the season you and I spend the night here in the trailers and see if we feel the same after some distance fron this intense scene we just shot?" Ellen told him because she knew she couldn't think straight tonight and if they kept up this conversation she was scared she would cross many lines she didn't want to. "Okay that sounds good, how about some wine and a movie" Patrick answered with a smile and she knew tomorrow would be hard to get through for them both. But tonight they were just them.

Patrick got to set early the following morning, he was so upset and needed to see Ellie before anything. He had gotten some news late last night that he knew would put a stop to the conversation he started yesterday and wanted more than anything to continue it with Ellie tonight. He was also afraid that this would now ruin his and Ellies friendship and wanted to know her reaction now.
He was pacing outside her trailer just waiting for her to arrive. 'Hopefully she'll be here before i need to be on set' he thought to himself. Then he saw her in a distance, she looked amazing today. She was smiling as she saw him and he really didn't want to be the cause of her smile dissapearing. "Hi Patty, how are you this morning?" She asked him with joy in her voice and he just blurted out "Jillians pregnant!" without realising that he didn't even greet her first. He could see her get a shocked look on her face for a second but just as quickly it faded into a sweet and soft smile and she told him "That's great Patty, I know you always wanted more kids" and he felt incredibly guilty. He did want more children and he hadn't even taken the time to be happy about the fact that he was going to be a father again. All he worried about was Ellens reaction after yesterday. 'Did this mean he was a bad father?' he started thinking when he heard Ellen speak again "Let it go Patrick. I know what you're thinking but don't. Yesterday never happened and you are going to be a great dad again. And im still your best friend." And she took his hand like he had taken hers last night. "I love you Ellie, thank you" he answered with a soft smile. Patrick knew he had feelings for Ellen but it was just something he had to repress because he had a family and it was about to get bigger. They walked in silence towards the set and Patrick was so happy that he hadn't lost his Ellie.

Ellen was of course a bit sad about the turn of events. She had really wanted to see if her feelings for Patty were more real then she had admitted but now he was having another kid. She just needed to focus on Chris now and at the same time keep Patty as her best friend. Because she couldn't lose him in her life. What they spoke of yesterday was not right at all but at the same time she was happy they never acted on anything. Because now she could still go on knowing she never wronged Chris.

*End of flashback*

"We need to get home" Ellen spoke raising her head for Patricks chest. "I know" he replied with a deep sigh. Every event in their life had worked against them being more than friends but laying here he wished things were different and didn't want to go home. Eventually they made their way to the cars and said their goodbyes. It wasn't goodbye they both knew that. But moments like this one were so rare that they didn't know how long it would take to be like this again.
As Ellen sat down in her car she saw missed calls from both Chris and Jillian and she got really scared that they were exposed but as she opened the text from Chris she read Made plans with Jill, we are going over for dinner and games on friday. This made her really happy because she got to see Patty again but at the same time super scared. They crossed lines again today and now they had to be just friends again. Luckily they had gotten some experiance with this over the years. 'I just hope it won't scare Patty away again'

Okay so a lot of more intense things happening with dempeo in this chapter. I know exactly what kind on backstory i want and events like Jills pregnancy are things i believe could have stopped them from becoming more. But the present day story im a little unsure of where im going with it. I think i might need a time jump because i want it to be as "real" as it can get and we all know they are not a couple today (2022) and the podcast was last year so maybe i'll jump a little. We'll see. Thanks for reading.

Oh and if the timeline of the flashbacks are confusing i will tie up a little bit of it in the next chapter
