Ellen really wished she was more drunk right now as she sat there just listening to Patrick and Jillian scream at one another. Chris was watching her from afar, listening to Jillians every word and she knew he would start a fight soon aswell. So for now she enjoyed her last few moments of being left out of the screaming. Until now it was mostly Jill screaming about how Patrick was looking at Ellen in a way that was not appropriate and Patrick screaming back that he was hanging out with a friend in the same way he always had. And that it was Jillians idea to have him and Ellen in the same team in the first place. Then she suddenly heard the words she knew would break the silence between her and Chris. "And you just expect me to believe that Ellen left her wedding ring at Erics and you just put it in your pocket to give back!? You must think i'm an idiot. Both of you!" Jill shouted and looked over at Ellen. 'Shit'
"What!?" Chris shouted. "What is she talking about El?" The dark look on his face was something Ellen hadn't seen for years. "I am talking about the fact that i found your wifes wedding ring in my husbands pocket a few months ago. And their explaintion was that she forgot it at Erics but she probably took it off while they were fucking!" Jillians words made Ellen stand up because she knew she couldn't leave Patty alone in this fight. "Hey! Stop it right now Jill. I never lied to you. We can ask Eric if that's what you need." Ellen knew Jillian had every right in the world to scream the words she did and she felt horrible for making her think she was crazy. But she knew their kids were upstairs and they might hear this conversation. She couldn't let this be how the truth came out, she just couldn't. Now she just hoped that Eric would lie for them.
"Fine call him right now!" Jill said and Patty gave Ellen a worried look, which she ignored and pulled up her phone. "And Chris, i didn't tell you because i felt bad for losing the ring. That's why I told Patty to get it to me before you noticed." Ellen continued on as the phone rang. She put it on speaker so everyone could hear and she felt her heart start to beat faster as she hoped she knew her friend well enough and that he would lie for her. "Hey El. What's up?" Eric answered and everyone in the room stared at her. "Hey. Actually i'm here with Jillian, Patrick and Chris and i just need you to settle something for us." She looked around and then she looked at Jill, silently asking her if she wanted to be the one to talk. "Alrighty, what can i help you all with." He said on the other end and she saw Patty form a smile at their friends sarcasm.  "Hi Eric, it's Jillian. I just want to ask you something." And she walked closer to the phone, now standing close to Ellen. "Sure thing Jill."
Jillian wanted to be polite, Ellen could tell. It was as if she didn't want anyone outside of this room to know she was having a shaky marriage. "I just wanted to know about the night Ellen and Patrick was hanging out at your house..."
This was it Ellen thought, the moment where Eric agreed with their lie or not. "Yes Jillian what about it?" Eric answered quickly and Ellen looked over at Patrick with a smile. As they watched each other they both knew they succeeded with this. But they also knew that Eric would probably scold them both later. "Just wondering why you didn't give back the ring Ellen left instead of Patrick?" Oh crap Jill was smart asking it like that Elllen thought. "I was going to be away all week so it was better that Patrick did. As i remember it Ellen was a bit embarrassed that she forgot her wedding ring and a bit afraid to explain it to Chris." Ellen smiled at their victory but wondered how the fuck Eric knew just what to say. But then she thought... Kate. She must have called Eric after Ellen lied to her this morning. "Thank you Eric, that was all." Jillian said and Ellen continued on to say goodbye to her friend.

"Jillian, do you believe us now?" Ellen said and looked over at Patrick. "Look Jill i know it sounded like a lie but it really wasn't. I was just helping out my friend. And Chris, she loves you so she didn't want you to know she was an idiot who forgot her ring." Patrick spoke and Ellen couldn't help herself. "Hey! Are you calling me an idiot?" And Patty laughed a bit at this. "Well yes but only because it's true El." With those words they ended up staring at each other once again and forgot that they were in a middle of an argument with their spouses.
"I'm sorry i brought this all up." Jillian suddenly said. "I know you're not acting any different tonight then you usually do. And i'm sorry i said what i said in front of the kids." She continued on. Ellen watched Jill and a part of her just wanted to tell her the truth in this moment. To tell her that she wasn't crazy and that she loved her husband. But she knew that couldn't happen, at least not like this. "It's okay Jill. I get it, we are close and you thought we lied to you." Ellen simply said and was met with a smile from Jill. "I'll go upstairs to talk to the kids, they need to know that everything is okay." Jillian then said and Ellen watched as Patty gave her a hug. It really did hurt to watch Patty and Jill together but she guessed that was her karma for everything she'd done. "You should have just told me you forgot the ring baby, i wouldn't have been mad." Chris said walking up behind her, giving her a kiss on the cheek. Ellen just smiled back at him because she didn't know if she could keep her tears away much longer if she spoke. "I'm gonna go see how our kids are doing." He continued to say leaving the room and she looked over at Patrick. They were alone and she honestly didn't know what to do with that right now. Before this argument she would have jumped him for all the teasing they had been doing but now all she felt was sadness as she looked over at the man she loved.
