Patrick got off the phone with Jillian a little upset. She had told him that a game night was planned for this friday with Ellen and Chris. He didn't like that they planned this without him. Of course he was excited to see Ellie again but doing it with Chris there was always hard. He had a lot of jealousy in him when he saw Chris and Ellen together. Ellen never showed that she felt that way with Jillian so even if she did she could mask it really well. And Ellen and Jillian had become a lot better friends than he ever had with Chris. One of the reasons they stopped hanging out in groups was that the pretending for him had really took a toll on his well-being. But he also knew that he needed to do things like this to be able to hang out with Ellen in peace. However having kissed Ellen the way he had just done made it a lot harder having game night this week. Nonetheless he was not going to run from this so he headed home trying to put on a happy face as he continued on with his day.
On his way home he couldn't help to think about their passionate kissing and then he remembered the first time he kissed her like that off screen. Even if was also what led to ther first fight, which was probably his fault.

*flashback to Ellens birthday 2006*
It had been a few weeks since Patricks sex dream of Ellen and about five months since they repressed their feelings after Jillian found out she was pregnant and tonight he was going to Ellies birthday party. Jill was of course staying home being six months pregnant and not the biggest fan of Ellen anyway, although she never admitted to that he knew for a fact that she would be happier without Ellen in their lives.
Patrick had gotten her a beautiful designer dress as a birthday gift. He wanted to give her something he knew she would love but a the same time not outshine her boyfriend because that would make people talk. The party was going to be low key, more of a gathering than a party really. Ellen didn't like to make a big deal out of her birthday but had told him that she really wanted him to attend so of course he would.

Ellen thought about the last six months and she knew they had been crazy. She and Patrick had been close to finding out if they were more than friends, then Jill got pregnant, then they had the Ny&Co shoot and she had really seen him as more than friends that day. Then at the emmys he kissed her on the mouth even if Jill were pregnant at the time and now he was here at her birthday party as her friend. But Ellen had been having a really good night, her closest friends were there, her sweet boyfriend and of course her Patty. She had chosen to open the gifts at the start of the night and the dress Patty got her was stunning. The card was from Jillian and Patrick but she knew it was all his doing and not Jills. She wanted to jump up and hug him for the amazing gift but settled for a sweet thank you knowing everyone was watching.
Chris however had told her that his gift was coming later so she was a little nervous. Was he doing something big? He knew she didn't like big but then again he didn't always respect this like she knew Patty did. 'Why did she compare him to Patty' she thought to herself. She knew that wasn't fair at all and Patty wasn't even hers, he was Jillians.

Ding ding ding. Ellen suddenly heard Chris cling his knife of his wine glass. 'Oh no is he giving me a gift like this?' She started to wonder as she heard Chris start to give a declaration of love. She could barely hear what he was saying as she started to realise what was happening as Chris got down on one knee. "Ellen, i want to spend the rest of my life by your side. Will you marry me?" She heard him say as she slowly drifted towards reality. He was proposing, here, in front of everyone. 'In front of Patty'
Chris was a great guy, he really loved her and she wanted to start her life. Patrick was married and would forever just be her friend so she decided to enjoy the moment of starting her own future. "Yes" she softly replied and everyone cheered. Chris kissed her and she was happy. Maybe not jump up and down ecstatic but happy. As Chris hugged her she couldn't help but to search the room for his reaction though. Something inside of her just needed his approval the way she had given him his approval when he told her Jill was pregnant. But her eyes couldn't find him. As Chris let her go people came up to offer their congratulations but Patty was nowhere to be seen.
