CHAPTER THIRTY-SIX PART ONE
But the gun never went off nor was it in the hand of our attacker. Instead, Hyūga's foot had kicked it out of his hand with a spinning kick. The mystery man stumbled back in both shock and pressure of Hyūga's attack.
Then, without giving our attacker a chance to recollect himself, Hyūga landed blow after blow. I watched, completely mesmerized, as Hyūga held himself quite well against a professional assassin. Though, I had to remind myself that it was me who was supposed to be protecting him. And not the other way around.
So, I quickly jumped into action once more. And between Hyūga and I, the man could barely block our attacks. I had to say, despite the Hyūga not having any Akatsuki training he was doing good moving in tune with me.
It was like--we had been fighting along side each other for far longer than we had.
Which was like, just a few minutes ago.
But anyway, I knew the mysterious assassin would either go down or escape.
But running away from a fight with a person he had called a 'kid' would be so embarrassing I doubt he'll be able to show himself in front of me once again if he did that. So, with that thought in mind, I knew I had to kill him to make him stop.
And vice versa.
Suddenly, out of the grunts and thuds sounds of the fight, I heard the familiar sound of a gun cocking. My ear twitched at its direction and I gazed over to the side, behind the trees where the first gunshot had came from.
Realization hit me like a ton of brick as my eyes widened in fear. There were two of them! Shit. Was an understatement. I jumped towards the Hyūga to push him out of the way. Everything felt like in slow motion as I stretched my arm towards him.
I could see every little movements. How the grass blades danced with the winds. How Hyūga's eyes slowly turned towards me in shock. My fingers hovering over the air between us as I pushed my whole body towards his direction.
My hand touched his side and pushed him away just in time for the sound of a gun going off.
He stumbled back at the sudden action. His eyes widening in realization of what was happening. The mysterious assassin who we were fighting started laughing as he retreated back deeper into the woods, saying his promise to return as voices of people started nearing us.
I slightly staggered as my feet touched the ground after my rush to push Hyūga out of the way. A laugh escaped my throat as I saw him standing up, unscathed. But he was not reflecting my joy. Instead, his eyes wide with fear and terror.
I looked down. Saw blood pooling by the grasses below me. I raised a hand and cupped my stomach before bringing it up to my face. Sure enough, my palm was soaked with blood. Another laugh escaped through my lips.
A bitter one.
"Why did you push me?" The Hyūga asked, his voice trembling.
"I told you, I like pushing people for fun," I answered, remembering the first time I pushed him to the ground after my run at the quadrangle of the school.
But...
Oh hell.
Itachi will kill me.
With that thought in mind, I saw the ground closing in as I fell.
