CHAPTER FORTY-FOUR (NEJI's PoV)

Tenten led me out of the room I was kept in. She didn't further explained her answer. I followed closely behind her, passing by bodies after bodies lying in a pool of their own blood.

It was a massacre.

Tenten literally killed just to save me. I knew it since before. But seeing her handiwork right in front of my eyes drove the knowledge that we lived in different words deeper into me. She's an Akatsuki. I am merely a student.

She was out of my reach.

We turned another corner. The thoughts spinning in my mind was driving me crazy. I needed a distraction. Anything.

And then I realized something.

"Tenten?" I called. She only hummed in answer so I continued. "How did you find me?"

She stopped on her tracks. Look over her shoulder and gave me a smirk. Which was strangely seductive. Or it was just me.

"I have my ways, Hyuga," she replied, her eyes twinkling with mischief.

I groaned as I realized. "Where did you put it?" I questioned, patting myself to look for the gps tracking I was sure she put in me somehow.

She laughed as she continued to walk once more. The chime of her voice resonated within me. Vibrating all throughout my whole being. I caught up to her. The things I wanted to ask more than anything was stuck in my thoat.

As a Hyuga, fear and cowardice was a foreign concept. Since we were young, we were trained to be strong. Physically, emotionally, and mentally. So, why when it came to Tenten, I was afraid? I fear hearing the answer I don't want to hear.

I dread for it.

Suddenly, she stopped. With a frown, I did too. Tenten whipped her coat back out of the way as she unsheathed two daggers from behind her. She spun them twice in her hand and stood in ready. I looked around and saw the two men who we fought back at the Hokage rock walking towards us.

"Came back for a round two, little missy?" one of them sneered. "Haven't you had enough?"

Tenten chuckled. "Oh, I'm a masochist,"

And with that, she rushed towards them. Tenten slashed towards the nearest man who jumped out of her way. I looked around for a weapon. But all I saw were guns. I had no trust in myself that I could use it. I might hit her.

Worriedly, I tried to look for anything I could use. But I watched as Tenten fought against two men who were physically bigger than her with no problem.

So, it was true what Deidara had said. Tenten only lost that fight because she was distracted. As I watched her played with the two assassin as she laughed like she was having the time of her life, I knew there was no need for fretting.

One of the men got passed Tenten and rushed towards me. I crouched, readied myself for the attack, but he never came. I heard a splattering sound before the man dropped to the ground. One of Tenten's dagger embedded in the back of his head.

I looked up at her and saw that her eyes were grim. Without looking away from me, Tenten mouthed a few words.

Close your eyes.

But I never did.

I watched as Tenten jumped up high in the air above the remaining assassin's head. She landed behind him. And before he could react, Tenten raised her weapon and slashed his throat. Blood sprayed all around us, some getting into me.

The man dropped limped to the ground as well. Tenten stood still in her place, the bloodied dagger still in her hand. Her face, now covered with more blood. She looked ethereal. So darkly divine.
