CHAPTER THIRTY-SEVEN (3RD PERSON POV)
"It's Uchiha," a familiar voice answered. "Her name is Tenten Uchiha,"
All eyes turned to the newcomers in shock. It was Sasori who answered the nurse's question and Deidara was standing behind him. Gone was the playful look in the latter's face. Instead, he was as serious as the older man.
"Uchiha?" Sasuke repeated, gritting his teeth as if he was unable to say the word.
Sasori barely gave him any attention as he continued to answer the questions the nurse was asking. Deidara on the other hand, nodded at him in confirmation.
"Are you her guardian?" the nurse asked for his ID.
Sasori gave his identification card. "No," he answered. "But I already called her guardian. He's on his way. I am her school teacher,"
The nurse nodded, taking his ID and checking it.
When the nurse was about to leave, Sasori stopped him. Telling him to move Tenten into a private room and asked if it was possible to see her immediately. The nurse nodded in acknowledgement and told them he would come and get them once they get her into a room.
No one could gather the courage to ask the school doctor for elaboration as he walked towards the still silent Hyūga.
"How many?" He asked the younger man.
"There were two of them. But we didn't see the other one until shots were fired,"
"She would have seen it coming if she weren't so distracted," Deidara interrupted, his malice was obvious in his voice as he glared at the Hyūga.
"Deidara, stop," Sasori scolded. "What happened already happened. There's no use blaming Hyūga, he's just a kid. Tenten knew the risks,"
"Wa... Wait," a voice interrupted behind them. "Surely I'm not the only person at a loss here. What risks? And why the hell were they attacked?"
The question came from Sakura and the rest nodded their agreement at her statement. Sasori turned towards them and glanced at Hyūga who refused to meet anyone's eyes.
"That's a need to know basis," Deidara answered, "and you kids, don't need to know,"
All of them glared at Deidara. But they knew no matter how much they get mad or how much tantrum they threw, the older men would not tell them anything.
Suddenly, their growing group grew once more as two uniformed police officers and two detectives as they introduced themselves came. Sasori gave them a glance, took a card from his wallet and gave it to them.
"Stand down officers. There's no need for interference,"
One of the detective took the card from Sasori and read it. His eyes widened as he gave it to his partner.
"Forgive us, sir. We had no idea,"
Sasor waved his hand in dismissal. Without another word, the polices bowed their heads and left.
Everything that was happening was only adding to everyone's burning curiosity. Just what was written in the card of their school doctor for a detective to leave them without asking a single question?
"To hell with your need to knows. We all deserve to know what the hell happened with our friends," Sasuke growled, stepping into the school doctor's personal space.
Sasori did not flinched at the Uchiha glare he was given. After all, he was used to receiving a more intense version of it from the older Uchiha.
He simply gave him a glare of his own. "Young man, do not test my patience. Step away from me right now,"
Neji finally stood up from his seat and put a hand on top of his friend's shoulder.
"Dont, Uchiha," Neji started. Then he turned towards Sasori. "They need to know. At least, give us an explanation,"
Sasori sighed as he nodded. "Tenten is an undercover agent of ours,"
No one could hide the shock they received at the information Sasori had just given.
"Agent?" Kiba repeated.
"Undercover?" Naruto added.
Deidara nodded in confirmation. "She was hired to protect him," he pointed to Neji. "Neji Hyuga by his father, Hizashi Hyuga,"
All eyes turned to Neji, who's grave look confirmed all there question about whether it was true or not.
"Then, uncle's ring," Hinata murmured but her cousin heard her.
"What about my father's ring?" He asked.
Hinata turned to him, confused. "I saw her wearing a Hyuga ring. And when I looked at it, I was sure it was uncle's ring,"
"That's right," Sasori interjected. "Tenten received that ring as a payment for this mission of hers,"
"But why would uncle pay her with... His ring. I mean... Shouldn't he have paid her... Money?" Hinata asked, her voice breaking as she realized everyone was looking at her.
Sasori nodded, understanding her confusion. But he doubt telling them it was all he had at him while he was dying would be taken well. "That would have been the case. All we accept are gold, wire transfer, or cold, hard cash. But Tenten's always been an anomaly. Even in us so she chosw it,"
Deidara snorted. "More like, pushed with it. It was all the man had before he...died," his voice faltered in a grunt as he doubled-over.
Despite Sasori's quickness at socking him, Deidara had managed to finish his sentence. With his fist still at Deidara's stomach and his other hand gripping the man's nape, he looked over his shoulder with a grimace.
"By any chance, you've heard that?"
They all nodded.
"This is why I was against sending this fucker as back-up,"
Another familiar voice answered.
