CHAPTER FORTY-FIVE: COLD, DECEMBER NIGHT (NEJI's PoV)

I looked up from the book I was reading to find my two roommates trying to figure out how to wear a tie. I rolled my eyes as I sighed at them.

"You know you don't have to wear them if you guys just declined the invitation, right?" I asked and I was met with two glaring eyes.

"It's more troublesome if I did. I'll never hear the end of it from Temari," Nara drooled out as he unwrap the necktie into whatever knot he managed it to make.

I then turned to Uchiha for his answer and I was just met with his infamous Uchiha glare that could freeze even the hyperactive blonde my cousin calls her boyfriend.

"Oh, yeah," I continued with a grin. "You finally managed to get the courage to ask Haruno out. If only you had the courage to ask her to do your tie--hmmp!"

I didn't manage to finish my sentence when a pillow hit my head. It landed on my lap. I clenched at it before I threw it back to Uchiha who smirked in return before he went back trying to figure out how to make the right knot in his tie.

With another sigh, I stood up from my chair and walked towards them. I first stopped in front of Uchiha. I couldn't believe that someone born in the Uchiha family don't know how to tie a tie when they are a clan of business magnate.

"Here, I'm getting sick of you two let me do it,"

Uchiha dropped his tie and spread his arms slightly on his side to give me enough working space without making it uncomfortable for the both of us. As I finished tying it, I looked up to see how it was. But I noticed Nara and Uchiha both smirking at me.

I took a step back in worry.

"Sorry, Hyuga," Nara started. "As I said, it's more troublesome to decline,"

And with that, the two of them jumped me.

"Oh, stop sulking, Hyuga," Uchiha exasperatedly remarked. "You're already here. There's nothing you can do,"

I had my arms crossed, glaring at everyone who remotely looked my way. Nara and Uchiha had forced me into a suit. Apparently, it was important that I attend the Winter Formal despite that I had no date.

Nor was I interested in it.

After healing from her wound, Tenten happily went back to work as the Akatsuki never fired her despite her initial concern. Though, I almost died after she announced to them that we started dating.

Which is why I was extra bitter about the couples around me.

"I can't believe you're such a simp, Uchiha," I retorted which earned me another glare from the man sitting beside me.

"I am not!" he indignantly rebuffed.

I rolled my eyes at him. "Yeah, you're not," I sarcastically agreed. "Then why did you do this just because Haruno pleaded you?"

"Well--I. . .," he started. "That's because. . . Well, you know?"

The rest of the boys laughed at our conversation as Inuzuka and Uzumaki coughed the word 'simp'. But unlike me, they both received a hard smack on the top of their head from the Uchiha.

The girls finally returned back from their bathroom visit. Why they needed to all come together, I still had no idea. I rolled my eyes as they all walked towards their respective dates and asked them to dance. Even Inuzuka had a date; a girl from another year.

I turned to my cup and raised it up to take a sip as a shadow befell over me. I sighed as I thought of why I didn't want to come to this dance at all.

The girls would be impossible to keep away from me as I came with no date.
