CHAPTER ONE
I ran through the forest. My movements were barely making a sound as my feet seemed to caress the ground. But contrary to my swift and agile movements, my lungs were about to give up. It felt like it was on fire and I found myself forcing to breathe properly.
I stopped running and leaned back unto a tree as my chest heaved up and down in discomfort. My fingers were numbing so I spun my daggers around to try and bring back feelings into them. And just as I was about to move to another part of the forest to search, I heard something but I was unable to point out where it had come from.
I clicked my tongue in irritation. I returned my daggers back to their sheath that was on my belt behind me. Then, I looked up and jumped up to reach the branch above me. I easily pulled myself up with little to no noise. But as I stood up on the thick branch, I felt slightly lightheaded at the action. I put a hand on the tree trunk and took a couple of deep breaths to steady my feet.
When my breathing was slowly returning to normal, I reached over my back pocket and took out my phone. I flipped it opened and read the newest message;
It's been two hours. Are you sure he's still there?
I rolled my eyes. I wouldn't be wasting my time if I think he wasn't here anymore. So, I quickly typed in a reply. If he's not, then who are these people looking for, huh?
With a sigh, I put my phone back without waiting for a reply. If anything, I was madder at myself than anyone else. He was my client. I was supposed to keep an eye on him yet he managed to run away from me. If I see that damn man alive he won't be breathing for much longer because I swear I'll kill him myself. Such humiliation he was making me out to be.
I was about to move when I saw two men approaching me. I leaned back on the trunk, trying to hide my whole body out of their sight. Both men were holding a .50 caliber pistol and were sweating hard. Just like me. I couldn't help but noted with amusement.
At least, I wasn't the only one who was getting tired of this shitty hide and seek.
"He's here somewhere!" one growled, somewhat out of breath.
The other one patted him in the shoulder. "He's injured. He can't get that far. Come on,"
Injured? It can't be? Did they get to him?
Worst case scenario played in my mind as a feeling I've already forgotten weighted in my heart. Fear. I shook my head. There was no use thinking the worst. It'll only slow me down. I took a few more deep breaths to calm myself. The longer he stayed out there unprotected the larger the chance he'll die. So, I need to keep ahold of my own mind and find him soon.
Or else ...
Once the men were out of my sight, I quickly pushed myself off the trunk and jumped to the nearest branch. I continued to travel like that, stopping once in a while to look around. I can't believe I never even thought of it before. But being up here I can see more of the forest and yet stay out of sight.
I sighed. I guess I'm still lacking after all.
And then, I found it.
10 men with guns were surrounding my client. He was wounded and I couldn't help but click my tongue at the amount of blood I could see. I swung down from the branch and kicked the nearest man to me. As I spun in the air, a pair of 9mm pistols came out of my boots. I caught them perfectly in mid-air and couldn't help the smirk that made its way to my lips. What can I say?
I wasn't one for wasted movement. So, in the same maneuver, I aimed at my sides and shot. I spun around perfectly as if I was doing a cartwheel. It was a move I had been practice for a while now. Once my left foot touched the ground, I pivoted to shoot at another two that was behind me.
