We arrive at the hotel, and I end up rooming with Aitana. I couldn't be happier. I love rooming up with her. She is involved in no drama, and she is always fun to be around. We listen to some music while getting ready for our training session at the Volkswagen Arena. On our way to the stadium, my good friend Jill sends me a message.
Jill 💃🏾💚 : Yo, bro. Where are you staying at? 😘
Me : *insert hotel name*. What are you up to?"
Jill 💃🏾💚 : Fancy a walk around the neighbor?
Me : With you? Always 🤪
Jill 💃🏾💚 : Text me when you are back at the hotel 😜
Me : Count on me 😌
I smile at my phone happy to see my friend for the second time in a week. We've met during the Youth Competitions and stayed close ever since. I was happy when she decided to go to Wolfsburg because I knew it was to be closer to her family and she needed it deeply. I know it's a bit weird for her to play against us, because she is facing Lieke, Ingrid, and me. All the fans seem to know about the triangle Mapi, Jill and Ingrid, it's the most dramatic love affair of those semis. But for those who were there in real life, we all know nothing had happened between Jill and Ingrid. Could it have been a thing if the Norwegian stayed in Wolfsburg? For sure. But it never happened.
"Is Jill ready to lose again?" Leila wonders with a smirk seeing who I am talking with.
"She better be." I chuckle causing some of our teammates to turn.
"Was she happy to see you and Ingrid?" Jenni asks viciously.
"I'm pretty sure she was happy to see Julie." Claudia answers before I can. "No one can possibly hug someone that much."
Jill and I have a really touchy friendship, we are both the exact same and we need physical contact with the people we like. It was never a problem with our respective girlfriends, and no one will ever make us change our ways.
"Jealous?" I raise my eyebrow joking with my teammate.
"Not me, but some others maybe." Claudia states innocently and goes back to the front of the bus.
I look at my teammates who are just as lost as I am.
"Dropping bombs and running away isn't cool, Pina." Leila shouts.
"Sorry not sorry." Claudia waves us goodbye.
"That kid..." Marta chuckles. "Anyway, who is ready to win?"
We all cheer as the bus parks in the stadium underground parking. We walk to the field. The stadium is amazing. It's not like the Camp Nou but it feels nice. It feels almost intimate, I bet the Wolfsburg players feel like home in here. The green color highlights the feeling of belonging and the Wolves all around the place can be intimidated at times. But not with us. I take pictures quickly and then get ready to train.
The training goes well, and I feel good, Jonatan wants me to play as a left winger this time. Ana twisted her ankle yesterday, and she feels sore still. I work on some movements with Frida and Alexia. Something is weird, I don't feel like Frida is completely here, same goes with Caroline and even Jenni. They seem to be somewhere else, as if they had played the game in their head already. I go to Jenni to make sure we are on the same page.
"Lista?" I ask her.
"I don't know..." She sighs. "I don't feel like we're ready."
"You seem a bit lost indeed..." I agree.
"Frida has no rhythm, Caro is hiding, I can't do the right things." She lists. "I don't know what is happening."
"You need to get out of your head." I put my hand on her shoulder.
"I'll try..." She whispers.
"Is everything okay?" I worry.
"Can we talk once we're back at the hotel?" She looks down.
"Sure, I have to see Jill and then, we'll talk, okay?" I open my arms for her.
"Thank you, hermanita." She hugs me.
We walk to the bench and take our things back. We don't take long to be back in the bus, and we wait for the last ones to join us. As I am putting my AirPods on, I hear Claudia and Leila gasping behind me. I try not to react, knowing they are with Patri and Ana, but I listen to them.
"So, you break up with her and finally she starts to do what you always wanted her to do?" Ana chuckles.
"Girls are weird, I swear..." Claudia facepalms herself. "Are you happy about it, though?"
"I don't know." Patri sighs. "It's great to see she has understood my needs, but maybe it's too late."
"Wait and see." Leila taps her shoulder. "You'll know once you see her."
"Yeah, it's going to make you realize things." Ana says a bit louder to make sure I hear.
I decide to ignore them and put some music on. Alexia comes and sits next to me with a smile. She puts her head on my shoulder and we spend some minutes in silence enjoying each other presence.
"Està bien?" She asks softly after a while.
"Màs o menos." I sigh. "There is a lot of things going on and I have a strange feeling about some of the girls."
"I saw that." She chuckles. "Frida was getting on your nerves during our exercise, no?"
"She was not here, like her mind is already somewhere else." I state frustrated.
"Do you want us to talk to her?" Alexia wonders.
"I don't know, maybe it's just because she is back in Wolfsburg." I imagine. "I don't want to overstep."
"Let me handle that, little one." Alexia winks at me.
"Sure thing, capitana." I roll my eyes, and she laughs.
We arrive at the hotel, and I send a text to Jill to warn her we are here. I go to my room and change. Aitana enters the room singing happily. I smile at her antics and follow along. I'm enjoying myself way too much and we end up laughing loudly on our respective beds.
"Thank you for that, Aiti." I tell my friend. "It was much needed."
"I know, that's why I did it." She winks at me with an innocent face. "Your phone is ringing."
"Oh, nice." I see Jill's name on the screen. "See you, Aiti."
