Trying to Be Normal

A couple hours later I found myself in the kitchen helping my mom and Fuyumi cook dinner. Apparently since I left Fuyumi's been taking over the cooking, so I wanted to cook tonight to give her a break but she refused, insisting me, her, and mom all cooked together. They at least let me do the actual cooking, both of them sticking to doing prep work.
"Touya, what are you doing?" Fuyumi asked, looking at me with curiosity.
"Huh?" I questioned, looking down to see that I was using my flames to seer what I had in the pan. It's a habit I picked up from living on the streets, needing to use my flames to cook shit most of the time. I still do it fairly often, though Tenko never complains. "Oh, sorry, it's a habit I picked up over the years." I deactivated my quirk and sat the pan back down on the stove.
"Ah no, you didn't have to stop, I was just curious. You never used to do that when you'd cook for us, it looked cool." Fuyumi said, slight panic in her eyes.
"Oh, yeah, I didn't. It's something I started doing when I was living on the streets." I replied, flipping the contents of the pan.
"Touya." I heard my mom say from the counter.
"What?" I asked, looking back at her confused.
"You should've just come home if you were on the streets." She said, a prominent frown on her face.
I sighed, "I should've, but if I did then I'm pretty sure I would've just run myself into the ground staying here. I couldn't live here anymore, mom. I had to get out."
My mom stayed slient, Fuyumi did aswell. For the remainder of the time we were in the kitchen nobody said a word. When it came time to bring the food out my mom and Fuyumi grabbed what they could and we carried everything out, setting it on the table before taking our spots, the same spots we had when I was a kid.
Everything started out in complete silence, nobody really knowing what to say to eachother anymore. Surprisingly enough, Endeavor was the one to break the silence. Endeavor cleared his throat then looked at me, "So, Touya, what exactly has your life been like since you left?"
At that all of their eyes were on me, practically begging for an answer. "Well, I already kind of told mom and Fuyumi, but for the first couple years I was just kind of out living on the streets. I did a lot of stealing and cooking with my quirk at the beginning because I didn't really know how the streets worked and I was just trying to survive long enough to find out. Those were the only times I was grateful to have inherited fire from Endeavor.
Around 4 years ago I figured it out, started doing some things to make money, and 2 years later I practically ran the streets that I stayed on and was able to start living in a motel. At some point last year Shigaraki ended up offering me a place in the league and I accepted. I started working with them, helped in running the front, and that's really it. There's not too much to tell." I replied, trying to keep out the parts they most definetly don't want to hear.
"What were the things you did to make money?" My mom asked, her voice fairly concerned.
I sat down my chopsticks and rubbed the back of my neck, "You don't wanna know, trust me."
"You sold yourself, didn't you?"
"Mom!" Fuyumi yelled out, "Don't just assume bad stuff like that! I'm sure he-"
"She's not wrong, Fuyumi." I interrupted, giving her a small smile, "I did what I had to do to survive."
My mom's eyes started to fill with tears. I started panicing, trying to figure out how to move on but not being able to form words. Natsuo then spoke up, giving me a wide smile that was very obviously forced, "You must really be excited about becoming a dad, right Touya? You have anything set up for them yet? Any names?"
I sighed a breath of relief and gratitude for Natsuo being able to switch topics. "Yeah, it is pretty exciting, though it's definetly scary at the same time. The league's been setting up a room in the new base for them, though they won't let Te- Shigaraki and I into the room until it's finished because they want it to be a surprise for some reason."
"And their names?" Fuyumi asked.
"We actually just decided on their names earlier this week. We chose Hiroto and Hiroshi." I replied. "Shigaraki wanted their names to be somewhat similar, I'm not too sure why though. The end of their names are also the beginning letters of our last names."
"Are they taking our last name or his?" Endeavor asked.
I shrugged, "Not sure. We haven't really talked about that much yet. We might end up giving them both of our last names in all honesty."
"So Hiroto and Hiroshi Todoroki-Shigaraki?" Shoto asked.
"Uh yeah, maybe." I replied, knowing damn well that Tenko would want to give them his real last name.
"I hope one day we'll get to meet them. I'm not sure about everybody else, but I'm more than ok with you bringing over Shigaraki sometime. I'd like to meet the guy that makes my son so happy." My mom said, a soft smile on her face.
I could tell the rest of my family tensed at the mention of Tenko being here, though I'm not surprised. "Yeah, I'll talk to him about it."
After dinner finished my siblings went off to do dishes as my mom took me to my old room. I was expecting it to be different but it wasn't, it looked exactly the same as when I left. "Get settled in for the night and then come downstairs for a little bit, alright?"
"Yeah, sure mom." I replied, she took her leave seconds later. I walked around the room, tracing the fairly bland walls as memories of my childhood all came rushing back to me. I decided to call Tenko real quick, just to check in and briefly let him know what happened with Endeavor and the commission. Once he hung up I went back downstairs, finding my family surrounded around the tv, joking and laughing while trying to pick out a movie. I sighed, "So this is what a normal family's supposed to be like, huh?"
