When Kayleb reached the school, he hastily jumped out of his car before it stopped. He looked over his shoulder once to ensure his car didn't hit anything. Only to turn around again so he could run faster to the school building without tripping over his feet. He clicked his car key, which closed and locked the car doors.
Pushing the school doors open, all eyes were immediately on him. People were whispering softly about something he couldn't quite make out. Then, at that moment, he was totally focused on the guy who had stolen his heart with just one look of those dark, mesmerizing eyes.
He loved the idea of a soulmate, one of the most significant differences between him and his twin. He waited for his mate like he was supposed to as a lycan, while his younger twin slept with whoever he wanted. It was the only thing they really argued about. Kayleb could never understand how his younger twin could do this to his future partner.
Their discussion on this topic always came to the same conclusion and with the same answers. His younger twin just wanted to live his life and not be tied to something as stupid and so far from free will as a fateful mating.
In the end, both boys knew that when the time came, the younger twin would have endless problems with his mate, especially if it was another lycan.
While werewolves could fool around without hurting anyone, lycans couldn't. Lycans were the first of their kind and had peculiar limitations and privileges not inherited by the weaker werewolves.
With all these thoughts racing through his mind, he ran through the hallways desperately trying to find this boy he only saw up close once and almost kissed before storming out. Remembering the near-kiss, he paused, standing in the middle of the hallway, blushing profusely. His hand was on his heart, hoping to help calm his rapid beating and the warmth in his flushed cheeks.
Kayleb couldn't find him. There were too many people around him. It made it impossible for him to find the guy with his nose alone, even though he had his mate's scent stored in it. So he had to do it the old-fashioned way.
He was looking for someone who had seen everything. Searching his surroundings, it took him a minute to find one of the girls looking horrified at what the group of athletes had done to poor Omega, but eventually, he found one.
"Hey?" he asked with excitement in his voice. The girl he spoke to, frightened, dropped the books she was holding. However, before they could fall to the ground, Kayleb caught them in the air.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you," he said to her apologetically, "I just wanted to ask if you know where that stupid jock leader went after I left."
She was obviously confused for a moment. For one, his response time was incredible, and for another, he was asking about an athlete - by this point, everyone was aware of his hatred for that particular group.
It took a moment, but her shocked but happy demeanor darkened. Kayleb was momentarily surprised, but that quickly changed when he realized she seemed to know what had happened.
After another second of silence, she told him that he went into the locker room, which was nothing surprising as the football players spend most of their time on the sports field training as the season starts in a few weeks, even though that wasn't the football locker room but the normal one. They even get tutors from school so they don't fall behind with the material. Though she tried to say something else, Kayleb immediately jogged away and thanked her several times over his shoulder for her help while a stupidly wide grin spread across his face.
The whole way, it was like his heart was about to explode at any moment. It beat so fast that he feared it would stop at any moment. He couldn't even hear his thoughts because of the loud pounding in his chest.
