The hot water on his skin was enough for Luke to burn the feeling of dirty hands off his body where they never should've been in the first place.

As he stepped out of the shower and looked at his clothes, which were lazily thrown in all directions, he saw what Kayleb had seen in them before. Things that reminded him of the humiliating things he had to go through to live another day.

It wasn't easy for him to grab his clothes, let alone put them back on. They were worn out because he didn't get new ones often, and well, werewolves aren't very gentle with their Omegas.

Just thinking about it made Luke want to throw up. Until Kayleb came along, he never saw anything wrong with how he was treated. Deep down, he still believes this is his destiny. After all, he's an Omega. At least, he thought so. But he had heard things. Things that made him question everything. Words he had heard walking towards his old room. Kayleb's booming voice still echoed in his head. Every word Luke heard his future Alpha say about him made him lose faith. His father told him the way of the moon and even named him after a rare lunar event, the Lucanian night. But now everything seemed fake to him.

Suddenly, he couldn't take it anymore. For him, this pack of savages had lived free long enough. Determined, the little boy left his new room and looked down the long hallway, only dimly lit by the falling sun. Soon, the moon would take its place. Whatever he and Kayleb had to do then would happen then. He was a little afraid of this moment.

Before they do what they must do later in the moonlight, he has to talk to the older boy. He didn't hear everything he'd discussed with his former Luna in muffled voices, but one significant thing still carried to his ears.

The cold stone staircase that took him back to the ground floor sent shivers down his spine as he descended barefoot. However, the house was warm. The entire second floor was equipped with underfloor heating. The only exception was the stairs leading up to it.

Luke didn't even try to sneak. He was sure his rescuer heard him opening his door and heading for the stairs. So, if he started sneaking when he was on the stairs, he would probably only get into trouble. Perhaps one day, he could reach his full potential under the guidance of his future Alpha, although he was only a little older than him. He could only hope. At least he wasn't on the lycan's bad side like the rest of his old pack.

The Omega landed light as a feather on the ground floor and finally took the last few steps into the living room.

He could already hear Kayleb and his friends laughing, which made him freeze in his steps. They were having a good time, and maybe he wasn't welcome. His sad thoughts and desire to talk to him could spoil the good mood.

Just a step or two from the living room doorway, he turned and headed back toward the stairs. With every step he took, his heart grew heavier. Until he could feel a presence behind him. Luke knew exactly who it was, which made him freeze again, almost like a frightened animal under the gaze of a predator.

"You don't try to bail on me, do you?" a deep voice asked him, trying desperately to sound joking, but the disappointment he was trying to hide was obvious.

Luke tried to swallow the lump in his throat. "I didn't mean to spoil your good mood," he said to the taller boy, stuttering in a voice more befitting a wounded animal. The lycan's eyes immediately softened. He desperately wanted to hug the younger boy, but he knew it wouldn't be for the best at that moment or any time soon.

"At some point, we have to talk about everything. You know that, right? It will be painful, but I will never think of you less." Kayleb hoped he could calm Luke's racing thoughts with his compassionate words. The younger one really doesn't need to stress himself out any more than he already is. "And about ruining the mood. You can't be worse than Neil," he told him proudly with a cheeky grin.
