A while later, the lycan walked back into school. But as he entered the huge, gray concrete building, he quickly realized that the school wasn't over as he had thought. Instead, he and Chad went to his house while school was still in full swing.
He chuckled to himself. It had happened again.
"Where have you been?"
He heard someone shout behind him as he walked through the almost empty corridors. Looking back, he saw Neil walking towards him with long strides, which looked amusing since Neil's legs were just as short as the rest of his body.
"What's wrong, little bean?"
The question, or more likely the nickname, cast a bright pink shadow across Neil's cheeks. He stuttered his words for a moment before glaring up at Kayleb.
Neil slapped his arm, and although it didn't hurt, Kayleb still backed away with a hearty laugh.
"Wow! Don't be so aggressive, otherwise you might get hurt.
The little aside only made Neil angrier. This time, though, he didn't hit him but extended his claws. Before he could scratch Kayleb, however, he let his dark blood red eyes shine.
"If I were you, I wouldn't do that. Otherwise, I'd have to punish you, and I promise you, little bean, that wouldn't be so nice for you." An evil grin crossed his lips.
It caused Neil to pull his claws back into his body. He hung his head in embarrassment.
"Don't worry. We can deal with your anger issues later. But first, tell me what happened."
It didn't take a second for Neil to blurt everything out. How the whole pack panicked when they realized he had disappeared without a trace, along with his car.
He thought it was sweet that they cared so much. It felt good to have a few people around again after everything happened. Carefully, he took Neil under his arm and locked him in.
Neil was pressed against the side of his new "Zaphal" which made him feel safe. Everyone in the pack could feel the new authority radiating from Kayleb. Only he didn't seem to know it. "The pack is anxiously searching for you."
Kayleb knew that James' pack was his now that he was their leader, but he didn't feel it yet. Especially since he never met the whole pack. But hearing it from someone closer to them caused a strange feeling in his heart.
"I'm not going anywhere without all of you knowing again, okay? But as it seems, I have to meet the whole pack so that something like this doesn't happen again. I promise."
Neil tried to look up at him, but Kayleb just looked forward as they walked further into the school. He didn't even tell his Zaphal they had passed his next lesson. He was just too happy to see him healthy.
In the student lounge, it seemed as if the abyss had opened up. Within seconds, dozens of people stood before Kayleb, some worried, others like James, outraged.
"You should go see the others before something bad happens to you," he whispers to Neil.
Neil had felt uncomfortable where he stood, with all those dark eyes focused on their Zaphal.
As soon as he removed his arm from the boy's shoulder, he immediately ran towards Clara. Kayleb quickly realized that she and several others from the pack were standing separately from the main group who stood directly before him.
As if they were a group within a group, with Clara as the leader. But it would make sense. Especially when he thinks about the group of friends he met on his first day, too few for a pack.
