ME AND MADDY caught the bus to school, reason being we were up too late to walk. Maddy was having a hard time coping, but I hoped the more she got used to the feeling the better she'd feel as the day went on.

I tried not to think about how ill and tired I was feeling because I knew from past experience that it'd only make me feel worse.

"Just drink a lot. And eat loads to keep up your energy." I advised her as we walked up to the entrance. She sighed, "I need caffeine."

I chuckled, "You've already had a cup of coffee, Mads." She rolled her eyes, "Yeah, and it did absolutely nothing!"

I patted her back, "Just try not to think about it. Keep your mind busy." She nodded as we walked up to Tom and Shannon.

Tom looked taken aback, "Woah, you two look awful!"

"Yeah, are you both feeling okay? You're both pretty pale." Shannon added, concern written on her face. I waved my hand, dismissing their worries, "We're fine, it's probably just a bug."

The two nodded, accepting our excuse. The problem was we couldn't bunk off school. Just as dad had told us this morning, if we stayed at home every dark moon day, someone would eventually notice.

Maddy nudged me and nodded towards Rhydian. My eyebrows raised at once. Neither of us expected him to come in as he was no doubt feeling as bad as us. He was slouched over, sitting on a brick wall with his head down.

"We'll catch you both up." I told Tom and Shannon as they made their way inside. As me and Maddy approached Rhydian, we saw just how bad he looked. He was as pale as a ghost and his eyes had lost their usual shine.

"Well, you look terrible." Maddy stated as we sat down beside him. He sighed quietly, "So do you two. I hate no moon days."

"How are you feeling?" I asked him. He shook his head, "Like shit." I rubbed his arm sympathetically. I was hoping that the Vaughans would be a bit more lenient and would've let him stay off, but it suddenly became clear that his foster parents were as strict as ours.

"We'll push through." I told the two. I didn't believe my words as I had enough experience to know that they weren't true, but hey, what's wrong with having hope?

The three of us furrowed our eyebrows in confusion as we heard a beeping noise. We looked up ahead to see a forklift escalating upwards. A grin appeared on my face. I turned to the two, "Whoopsies."

The three of us laughed and ran over to join the crowd, watching the men on the forklift slowly go up to the roof. Jeffries did not look happy. He stood with his arms folded at the front of the crowd, shaking his head in disappointment.
