I HAD managed to sneak into my dorm without anyone seeing me on the way and without waking the three girls. I was sitting in the corner of our room, curled up on a chair, reading. I had taken a shower to refresh myself and had gotten dressed. I was just waiting for everyone to wake up so that we could go and eat, because I was deeply craving some bacon.
I heard a quiet knock on the door. I placed my book back in my bag on the floor beside me and walked over to the door. I opened it to see a suspicious looking Shannon.
With the look she was giving me, it was difficult not to run and hide in a hole somewhere.
She nodded down the corridor and I followed her all the way to the staircase. I blinked in surprise to see Tom and Rhydian there too, but, to my confusion, there was no Maddy.
We waited patiently for her to begin talking, although, me and Rhydian already knew what was in for us. She clicked her tongue, "Where were you two and Maddy last night?"
Rhydian furrowed his eyebrows slightly, "What?"
"Shannon had this idea that..." Tom began, his sentence unfinished as he was interrupted by Shannon, "You were there Tom! You know I'm right."
I looked between my two human friends, my thoughts clouded with confusion. What theory did the have up their sleeves now? I rubbed my eyes, "Right about what, Shan?"
Shannon folded her arms at the two of us, "The three of you snuck out last night and you know it. We followed the sound of the howling to the lime kiln, and there was something there. We think..."
"You think!" Tom corrected the strawberry-blonde. Shannon gave Tom a look of annoyance before turning back to us, "I think... Maddy changed last night. And you two know about it."
I fidgeted anxiously. Yeah, she'd got it right on the nose. I looked at Shannon confused, keeping up with our act, "What do you think she changed into, Shan? A fairy or something? No, we just went for a walk..." I nodded towards Rhydian, "Rhyd's ankle was hurting, so we thought a walk might help."
Shannon shook her head, "B-but something knocked Tom over. It was huge!"
"Well, it could've been anything. A dog maybe? A fox? Or it could've been some kids who thought you were that... Ghost Dog?" Rhydian suggested. I was glad he was able to come up with some good excuses for the three of us.
I placed my hand on Shannon's arm and gave her a comforting look, "It could've been anything, Shan."
She looked down at the floor in embarrassment and again, that familiar feeling of guilt rushed over me. I sighed and walked down the stairs, "Come on, we need to find Maddy."
As if on cue, the brunette walked through the door at the end of the corridor, her arms full of white pillows and a duvet. She placed them down onto a wooden shelf as the others came down the stairs to join us.
"I thought you were sharing with the K's?" Shannon questioned her, clearly confused to see her coming from downstairs when the rooms were upstairs. Maddy grimaced, "You didn't think I'd share with them did ya?"
We all chuckled a little at her reply. She pointed behind her, "I bunked down here on the sofa."
"I don't blame you." Tom told her, cringing at the thought of having to share a room with the K's. We laughed, but then a waft of bacon filled my senses, "I smell bacon. Anyone coming for breakfast?"
Rhydian raised his hand and hurried forward, "Me! I could eat a whole pig."
Maddy followed him excitedly, "Me three!"
I held the door open for the other two and looked to Tom and Shannon, "You coming?"
The pair shrugged and walked through to the breakfast area. I also walked through but rested my head against the door frame. That was a close call, and I didn’t know how many more lies I could tell before I broke.

"Home sweet home!" I exclaimed, punching a fist in the air as I hopped off of the bus. Maddy and Rhydian chuckled and we found a quiet spot on the school car park while the rest of the year group departed the bus.
I sat on a nearby brick wall and looked to Maddy, "So?"
A grin spread across her face, "That. Was. Amazing. Being a wolfblood is going to be so great!"
We all laughed, "Yep, it doesn't get much better than that!" I told her. And that's when I realised that that night was probably the best transformation I had ever had. No, it was the best transformation I had ever had.
I looked down at the ground and my smile faded, "I wish we could do that every full moon." I knew there was no point in me saying it. We were all thinking the same thing but we all knew that it wasn't a possibility, and for good reason.
But I couldn't help but wonder. Playing in the ruins, running across the fields. The night air cool and calming as opposed to the stuffiness of the den.
It was truly wonderful.
"Me too, but I doubt we'll ever be able to do that again." Maddy reminded me. Rhydian nudged me, "You're right though, I'd love it if we could run wild every full moon."
Our conversation was closed as Jeffries made his way over to us with a small cardboard box, "Here is your prize, kids!"
Prize? We had barely gotten any of the answers, but I wouldn't say no to a free gift.
He held the box out in front of him and I took a rectangular object out of the box. The disappointment was clear on my features as I examined it. It was a book... written by Jeffries.
I raised an eyebrow at the teacher. He tutted and took the book out of my hands, "If you don't want it then fine! I'll just sell it to my new customers!" He shouted as he stormed back to the bus.
I shook my head at him while Maddy and Rhydian just laughed. I turned to face them, "That man has issues. Big time."
