THE DAY of the full moon had finally reached us, and we were glad to say the least. The three of us had ran through the forest on the way to school for at least an hour, but even that wasn't enough to burn off all of the pent up energy we had inside.

"Ha!"

I threw the basketball perfectly through the hoop with ease, but Rhydian was not pleased, as shown by the frown that appeared on his face.

I chuckled, "You know that mam's freaking out about tonight." I told him. He forced out a laugh, "Well, after the last few full moons, can you really blame her?"

He had a point, the last couple of full moons had been frightening for my parents, especially mum. I was only glad that things were getting back to normal, perhaps that would bring our mother some peace of mind.

I smirked, seizing the opportunity to nick the ball off of him.

"Oi!"

I laughed, "Not my fault you're slow." I told him, aiming and throwing the ball - but it just about missed. He smirked, nicking the ball from me, "Not my fault you're a girl." He threw the ball directly into the hoop.

I huffed and rolled my eyes, "You know better than to undermine me." He chuckled, "Yeah, I'd better be careful. Otherwise, my tail will end up snapped in half." He joked.

I sighed, "Anyway, we've got to be home by 5:00." His eyebrows furrowed, "But that's hours until moonrise." He informed me, throwing the ball to me.

Catching it, I replied, "Yeah, but they don't want to take any chances this time." Neither did I. Despite how amazing the last few full moons had been, we all knew better and what was safer, for us and for everyone else and that was inside the den.

I took a few steps back, bouncing the ball as I lined up to the hoop. Rhydian stood in front of me, ready to block the ball when I threw it. Behind us, I could sense our three friends approaching, and Tom was giving us a running commentary, "Smith goes for the shot," I threw the ball as high as I could, but alas, "but is blocked by Morris..."

Rhydian swiped the ball from my grasp, and I quickly took my place in front of him to block the ball.

"Morris lines up..."

Though, it turns out I didn't even need to try and block it as he completely missed.

"He misses! Complete embarrassment for the boy from Wales, whilst Smith takes victory in her ginger glory-"

We both gave Tom a look.

He pressed his lips together, "Yeah, I think I'll leave it there..."

The five of us shared a laugh and we met in the courtyard. Shannon bit her cheek, "My dad's cooking tonight, so I was thinking burgers at Bernie's instead?"
