I SILENTLY pushed the door to the shed open, peering through the crack to see if dad was in there, which he was not to both mine and Maddy's relief.

We silently snuck inside, making a beeline for where the masks were hung, carefully avoiding the clutter on the ground. Just as I was about to grab the first mask, a voice was heard from behind us, "Taking up woodwork, are we?"

We span around to see dad standing in the doorway, his arms folded.

I gulped, forming an excuse in my head, "We were just-"

"Just running off with Rhydian, getting into more trouble?" He asked, his eyebrow raised.

I sighed looking down at the ground, "We're trying to stop trouble, not cause it."

Maddy nodded in agreement, "Yeah, there's more of that chemical bait and Shannon's going to release it." Maddy explained to him.

"Why?" Dad asked, his eyebrows furrowed in concern.

"She wants to get the wolves protected by law." I told him. Maddy continued for me, "And the only way she can do that is to prove that they exist."

"And the quickest way to do that..." I trailed off as dad finished my sentence, finally catching on, "Is to attract them with the scent."

We both nodded, and I turned to reach for the masks, thinking that he'd let us go. He sighed deeply, "We need to tell your mother."

I drew my hand back and my lips parted in shock. Maddy scoffed behind me, "What, so that she can nag at us for an hour and say that this is all our fault?"

We needed to get out of there and onto the moors as quickly as possible. We already had limited time to find the canister before Shannon and Tom did, and this conversation was cutting minutes off.

"Look, me, Maddy and Rhydian can get the canister before Shannon even leaves the village." I told him confidently.

"Yes, but what if it's leaking, or damaged?" He asked us, backing towards the doorway.

Maddy span around, grabbing the masks from their hooks as she replied, "Lia mentioned that, but these masks will stop it entering our system."

"So we won't transform." I told him.

Maddy sighed next to me, "We made this mess - let us clean it up."
